Could the future of OS X be macOS? It looks like Apple is normalizing operating system naming, the prefix determining the platform and stylized as lowercase letters.

iOS: iPhone, iPad
watchOS: Apple Watch

Schiller said (I'm loosely quoting) in an interview with Daring Fireball's John Gruber that the Watch OS name change to watchOS was something that was going to make sense, especially in the long run.

Obviously they'll keep on giving Mac updates the California names, but I'm guessing they'll eventually change the formal name of the OS.

Just an observation....

OS X is successful brand, I don't see them changing anytime time soon. I mean we'll not see them go with the apple phone over the iPhone or the changing the name of the iMac. There's no benefit to changing the name and a lot of downsides.
