    Hello,

I need some advice, I'm reading forums since 2 days :) trying to find out a solution to my question.

    I have a MacPro 1,1 upgraded with 2 x 2,99 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Rom Revision: MP31.006C.B05
    SMC Version: 1.7f10
    9 Go 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 Mo
OSX 10.8.5 - Chameleon boot on SSD

because of some games not working fluently I'm wondering if by replacing my HD 5770 I will get better results. The answer is apparently yes which is

In this forum I found that for MacPro 1,1 I should go for a GTX 570.
in another one someone told me to go for a 770 ....

Well to be honest I'm quite lost, and do not know which card will be the best.
Few models are also available on the market, some noisy others not ... which one to select ?

If someone can help that will be very much appreciated.

    Thanks.

If you do no need the boot screen, you can use any recent Nvidia video card. Without a boot screen, you will not see the Apple logo when you turn on the computer and the screen will remain dark until it boots in to the desktop (this corresponds to when the drivers are loaded).

This FAQ has all the info you need. Since you are running 10.8.5, it will work.

I don't know if a GTX 770 would be a good choice for your computer. You have sever bottlenecks in the bus speed and the potential of the card may be wasted in that machine.

    Thanks for your reply Pastrychef.

But will the GTX 570 improve my machine compared to ATI 5770, or should I invest in another machine, which is also a possible option.

I'm sure the GTX 570 will improve your performance, but it may be overkill since it will be bottlenecked by the 667MHz of the bus speed. I can't really say what would strike the best balance since I don't have a Mac Pro 2,1 to try.

As to whether investing in a newer machine would be a better option, in my opinion, the advantages of moving to a newer computer are many and it makes more sense than buying a high end video card that will be severely bottlenecked.

I think this illustrates fairly well what bottlenecks can do to a good video card.

ok got it, so will check for a new MacPro machine, or maybe build a mackintosh, which make more sense to my opinion too :)

    Thanks for your advice, appreciated.
