I have a MacPro with 6 Gb memory installed, by a Mac authorized facility. At times, only 4 Gb is shown as available memory. I hav to reset the SMU, which regains the lost memory. I have to do this every couple of weeks. Any suggestions as to how to avoid this recurring problem?

have you ran the apple hardware test? and memtest?

try those if not. reseat the memory in different slots.
depending on the configuration you have (ie; 2x512, 2x2gb 4x1gb etc) you may need to seat them (the larger chips) in the first banks, sometimes its goofy, idk i ran into this once or twice.

might be non-ecc ram mixed with ecc-ram?
