LOL, if Apple doesn't use the Xeon in the next MacPro update, they could use an overclocked C2X on Nov.11...or we could see this CPU in an all new Octo iMac
come Nov.11
. Cool, or should I say 'that's hot', a TOL 24in iMac that could keep up with a MacPro in CPU performance...with a screamer of a fan blowing/on turbo mode 100% of the time.

Of course, I (not we) don't really care about the MacPro or the iMac, since I won't be buying/using one of them. Electronista seems to have incorrect info on the Mobile Penryn however. Monteviña platform Penryn's probably won't ship until summer '08, so surely a Santa Rosa updated MBP with Mobile Penryn will ship long before then, fingers crossed for a 17in LED baclit screen too.

Intel plans to release the first 45nm desktop CPU, the Core 2 Extreme QX9650 on November 11, according to sources at motherboard makers.
The quad-core CPU will offer a frequency of 3.0GHz with 1333MHz FSB and 12MB L2 cache. As is typical for products in the Extreme series, pricing for the CPU will be set at US$999 in 1000-unit tray quantities.
In an update to previous reports, three 45nm quad-core CPUs (Yorkfield) and another three 45nm dual-core CPUs (Wolfdale) for desktops will be launched in January next year, noted the sources.

The Xeon in recent months has often received a performance increase ahead of mainstream chips, such as the 3GHz quad-core model that appeared in Apple's Mac Pro this spring. Mobile Core 2 processors based on Penryn, which will use the Montevina platform and form the backbone of most of Apple's lineup, are not scheduled to ship until 2008.
