Any idea what these MacPro hard drive bay silver switches do? See attached pic. They are obviously activated when a HDD is installed.

Any idea what these MacPro hard drive bay silver switches do? See attached pic. They are obviously activated when a HDD is installed.

I always assumed they were spring contacts for RF grounding, like the woven metal mesh foam-filled things you find stuck to hard drives inside iMacs that contact the hard drive and the case.

Per the service manual it is a thermal sensor for the hard drive, one per slot. The spring contacts the drive to conduct heat to the sensor.
