really? even the single processor 12 core that's listed ( http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nehalem_(microarchitecture)?wasRedirected=true ) to come out Q2 2011? I can't find your 4Ghz CPU on the list (?)

As long as it's the same stepping as the current CPUs then very possibly.

However don't get your hopes up, I'm 99% sure that CPU will NOT fit.
Edit: NO! LOL That CPU will NOT fit, it's the EX variant in a different socked and god knows what.

A faster Xeon 3600 series or 5600 series is the best your going to get :)

my first impression is: I like it. It is much faster than the g5 it replaced, and noticeably faster than my other mac pro (1,1). It is reasonably quiet. I'm happy :)

And you had to respond to one post with two replies. Why am I not surprised?

So now pointing out that someone is copy/pasting the same thing to a ton of threads is "trolling"? I guess that's one way to deflect.

Ok, back on topic, I love my new hexacore so far. I agree, it is not too loud with the fans, however, it does seem like it has one super noisy optical drive. That's tolerable since it hardly gets used, but during all my app installs, it was getting a bit tiresome. I do wish it had at least one firewire 400 port so I could plug in my cinema display firewire connection.

Since when is it OK to copy/paste the same thing to even five or six threads? Give it a freaking rest already.

firewire 800 to 400 cable

I'm not sure if the front firewire ports are on the same controller as the rear ports - if so, using a single 400 device will likely bring all devices down to 400 speed. But for occasional use, probably fine.

edit: Oops for the cinema display you need an adapter, not a cable. Here is one:
