Hi Guys, new here but really hope someone can help.

I have a Mac Pro Early 2009 running 10.10.5 with 2.66 GHx Quad_Core Intel Xeon, 16GB RAM and I have installed a Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 4095MB graphics Card and have even given it the extra power it needs with extra cables. I am running the Nvidia web drivers (although every OS update means I have to update the web drivers using my remote support software on my phone as I can't see the screens!)

I use the CUDA functionality for heavy editing and processing on the full Adobe CC suite but I locks up a lot and crashes the Mac into a reboot and I don't know why, can anyone help please?!

Many Thanks!

The error report is as follows:

I have found that on Mac Pros running with Nvidia web drivers, anything OpenCL-related in Adobe CC causes major instability issues.

In Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects, make sure all your graphics acceleration options are set to CUDA, and disable OpenCL wherever possible.

Just happened again and lost 30 mins of work!

Error report states the below, can anyone shed any light?:

Yes all the drivers are constantly updated to the latest versions, and it has always done the same thing :(

Because the Mac is so old I have resisted upgrading to El Capitan as I'm not sure the hardware will take it? So haven't been able to try the Nvidia web drivers in that OS yet :(

Think then Nvidia will be more stable? It's never been stable on Yosemite but presumed hardware related as It looks like it was using too much power and shutting the Mac down?

Nvidia tends to fix bugs as they are found.

A GTX 970 will not draw enough power to shut down your Mac Pro. If it is shutting down on it's own, there's probably another reason for it. I would suggest that you first try to remove any dust build up inside the computer.

Only shuts down when using Adobe CC suite, so using the GFX card and web-drivers. Never shuts down with anything else. Dust is nice and clear, had a good check over everything. I guess I'll look to upgrade to El Capitan and hope the latest drivers work with everything...! Thanks for your help so far!

I have the exact same random restart (KP) issues, on two machines:

- MacPro1,1@2,1 with non-flashed but native-working GTX660 (tried both with stock Apple and with nVidia drivers enabled, same problem)
- MacPro5,1 with flashed GTX980 with latest nVidia drivers

Both machines run El Capitan 10.11.3 (15D21). Problem occurs mainly while using Adobe products. All Adobe products are updated to their latest versions. Hope some future updated will solve this, it's really frustrating.

Glad it's not just me then!

Nvidia should be working on a fix. Apple has them wasting a great deal of time supporting 2 drivers for every OS.

The antique driver Apple ships to punish Nvidia for outperforming their chosen AMD cards.

The much more current Web Driver which allows the use of their current cards, not the 2012 versions Apple likes to pretend are current.

Hey MacVidCards! I hope so, every crash (several times a day for months now) I have reported to Apple, and there have been at least 10 OS and Nvidia WebDriver updates since the Mac has crashed with Adobe so I really hope it is an easily fixed software issue, but whatever it is, it is taking forever. I feel for Nvidia I really do, but a crashing Mac is no good mid-way through an edit :(

It seems like Premiere and Media Encoder tend to fill up the VGA RAM, and when it's filled the kernel panic occurs. I monitored my VGA RAM usage via iStats app and here is what it looks like, after an hour of HD timeline rendering to H.264. Note the hole in the graph, that's where KP occured. The last drop in VGA RAM usage is when I quit Media Encoder, even though it stopped rendering a while ago - the RAM usage was still high until quit.

Wow I think that is exactly the issue I am facing! Don't suppose you know of a way to stop it filling up the VGA RAM by any chance? ;)

Is there any simple test can reproduce the crash?

So that other members here can test it and find out if it's a problem for specific model / brand GPU, or simple software's failure, nothing to do with the GPU itself.

So far it seems it's El Capitan/Adobe/nVidia related (didn't happen on the exact same hardware running Yosemite), but I haven't been able to reproduce it. But it happens once a day while heavily working in Premiere/Media Encoder.

I have the Same Kernel Panic problem in Adobe Premiere with a 680 Mac Edition and an EVGA 980. im not Reality sure, but I think the crash problem has started with 10.10.

Other question: How can I enable CUDA with my 980 GTX under CC 2015? I can only use OpenCL and there is no cuda_supported_cards.txt any more.
