Different video cards can actually display the same image, on the same monitor slightly differently. If you run a real crummy card, it might not give you as accurate a picture as a better card.

"Some GPU-accelerated features require graphics support for Shader Model 3.0 and OpenGL 2.0"
Thats right from adobe's site for photoshop.
I know that CPU and RAM and Hard Drive are more important for photo editing, but I know Aperture has some visual effects it does, and they run smoother on my 7800gs then they did on my factory 9000 pro.
The GPU is becoming more and more important everyday, I see no reason not to invest a few hundred dollars on a good one, especially on a system as expensive as the Mac Pro.
Well I knew it was not totally insignificant, but Snow Leopard will have to do some very nice magic with Photoshop + GPU, for 2D images, before I invest money in a vid card.

Haha! No, I meant that SL will be able to use our GPUs as processor "helpers". But then again, how will this help with PS4's damned one-threadedness???
Thankfully some filters are multithreaded, but most of the time I see one of my procs going 100% while the others are just crying: "Sorry mate, we can't help you there!" 🙂
Yes, there is. Do a google search, im sure you will find some information. When a lot of the PC sites review video cards, they do image quality tests, normally some 2D text and 3D games, every generation of cards brings better image quality [normally] and better performance.
