I think it would be great to have macrumors on the app store because on the iphone it doesnt load like the whole page sometimes, it just loads the first post. if it could navigate like the app store "Mac Rumors", "Page 2", "iPhone", "forums", and then a chat room so we could talk about what going on and like have different rooms like : What to buy, and then like Help!, etc.
i just was wondering, and i think it would be awesome! especially if it waas free:]

Not sure I see the point. What would be better is a really good RSS reader (so I can get more than just MacRumors, although I love it so).

Really? I wasn't aware of it. I had to do a search to find out about it. Not sure I'm interested in actually downloading anything in order to chat with (can't at work anyway), but if there was a macrumors app that had a chat client that was as easy to use as the chat on Facebook's app, I would probably check it out a lot on my iPhone.

I'm not that crazy about the macrumors mobile site, and I can understand the OP's desire for something more accessible for the App Store. And it would be cool if it had extra features like chat, or buyer's guide links to buy stuff, and other cool content. Plus, if the app downloaded articles like the NYTimes app does, where I could read macrumors on my subway ride to work, that would be great.

It's really not such a pointless idea...

i mean like whats the point of a myspace app when you can go on it in safari.
well its a lot faster, it is great to use.
and its not so fun replying to posts on my iphone i mean im sure not only i would find it useful, a lot of other people who read macrumors and have an iphone/ipod touch

Because it's only mostly used during keynotes, and the iPhone SDK has some limitations as to how programs can run.

Yes, I want that functionality for every site I'm on. No, not really. I want separate apps that let me do those kinds of things on all sites.

Chat -> IRC client to fill all my IRC needs, not just MacRumors
    NNW/Instapaper -> Reading offline, bookmarking

Everything else works fine with the regular web interface. In fact, I can't imagine it would be easy to get some of that stuff working the way the OP wants.

I agree with Rojo on this one. It is no less pointless than a Facebook applicatin, and yet everyone loves that. The OP has a decent idea. And MR could follow the trend and you could find macrumors people near you and then have a party with them. Try doing that as easily on the web.

Though I have no complaints with the web. Its a good site. No biggie, even over EDGE.

While I think the Mobile version looks great on my iPhone, i'd download a Macrumors App if they made one...

    i understand that.
    neither do i.
i just thought it would be an awesome idea to make an app for the app store.

    its pretty much saying this:
Whats the point of aim? its already on safari on meebo.com
meebo it great, but aim is native and better.

    This depends on the application.

Arguably many web services derive minimal to no improvement from having a native application.

I'm not saying it's a horrible idea, sure I've seen way worse on the app store right now, but it's one where you would not derive much benefit from doing so.

But as good as aim may be (i personally disagree), wouldn't something like Adium for iphone be better?

I'm with janey on this one. I prefer multipurpose apps over unitaskers.

then they should take facebook away.
like theres already a mobile version for the iphone.
theres always better things coming to the app store like facebook, i like facebook, i also would love macrumors.

    we all have differant wants.
i would want macrumors to have an app.
    but they dont have too.
i can live without it, but it will be a connivence to me.

Look, I get your point. But there is nothing in your MR app suggestion that can't be done the same if not better with other applications. Is MR the only site where you'd want to chat and save pages to read offline? Sure isn't for me. Something like Colloquy+Instapaper+NetNewsWire+Safari for the mobile site would do the same thing for so many different websites.

And really? The facebook and AIM apps aren't much better. I've actually run into limitations with the facebook application that I just log into the regular site for in Safari. I would uninstall the facebook app if it didn't at least keep me logged in.

I'm just providing an alternative opinion.

this is a forum, not a chat room. With a forum, it's all traceable, and it can be more easily moderated. A chat room - nobody would be able to keep up with all the posts - especially the mods.

Download netnewswire and then add MacRumors - great RSS reader.

I wonder why it doesn't load properly for you. Is this on Edge, 3G, or Wifi, or all of the above? Perhaps an issue with your phone.

That having been said, I could see the benefit of a well written app for such an interactive site.

    Well....almost. :D
I'm not really interested in an all-in-one app for multiple sites. I only have a few sites I go to regularly, so I'd rather have individual apps that can play on the strengths of each site -- rather than one big app for a specific purpose like just chats, or just RSS feeds. Plus, dealing with multiple sites in one app would be way too confusing and could potentially cause problems.

Well of course the Facebook app isn't the full-fledged browser version, and can never be. However, for checking Facebook on the fly, it's soooooooooo much more convenient than loading up the regular version, and then having to flip, zoom, pinch my way through the whole site to find what I'm looking for (something that will be even more painful when Facebook officially debuts it's "new look" -- which I find even more complicated to use). The regular site on the iPhone is a major drag for most of the basic things.

Seriously, the more and more I think about a MacRumors app, the more I think it would be a great idea, and something I'd really want.

Of course! To each their own...we all have different needs. ;)

    well on wifi
    3g its a 50/50.

thats exactly was my point because macrumors is an interactive website with a lot of people with iphones.

i thought it would be better for the app store.
    butt, anyways.

RSS is simply a way to look at all the headlines without loading the website. For example, in an RSS reader, with MacRumors loaded, you would just see a list of the stories, and if you click them you get a small description, and then a link to the full site. It's a convenient way of looking at many websites in a short time.

It's not whether it's possible, it's who's willing to do it XD.

I'd like to see a Macrumors app. Sure, it's the same as visiting the site in Safari, but it's a ton faster on EDGE.

I want to see a vbulletin application which is something I think we will see at some point.

It would allow proper format and display of the Vbulletin on the iPhone. Certainly it could be done with themes and such, but I would rather just have an app that will work with all vbulletin installs, or at least most of them.

There are lots of little things with vbulletin that are annoying on the iPhone that could easily be solved with an application designed to front for it.
