Actually, we're customers.

Well, technically no.

Of course it's a good idea to view members are customers in a lot of ways. You want any membership to be happy with its organisation, and viewing members are customers to keep happy makes good sense.

It's not the same however as retail customers, since no one is purchasing a product where promises and guarantees are made. If you consider for the sake of argument that donating a small amount to help with the site is (very much appreciated but) completely voluntary, then it's really a matter of members deciding if this forum is a good fit for them. If not, there are many other forums.

Now when that's said, I need to qualify it. Of course we hope that ALL members are happy enough here to stay, because it's the members who make the forum what it is. And members are encouraged to give feedback - changes are made, if the feedback improves the experience for a large enough portion of the membership and doesn't create enough of a drawback in other areas.

But there's a point at which any given forum won't be a fit for a particular member. That's true of any job, school, relationship - it's just life. It's up to the individual to decide. If it's a member who chooses not to follow the rules, the decision will be made for the member.

I dont think censorship is really an issue, but I don't think moderation is applied evenly across the forum.....

It's applied as evenly as is humanly possible, within the parameters we've set up. But in order for a post to be moderated, we have to see it. If you see a post you feel should have been dealt with, report it; chances are, no one else did.
