I had the strangest idea last night. What if we had awards sent out to users for things like "Best Mod" or "Funniest post" or even "Best computer set-up"? Does this sound do-able?

Nah lets all decide on a MR Hero and then we try to imitate him/her.

How about all the Moderators handing out the awards, and all the winners get their name added to the MR Bad Word Filter.

That way you can be just like MacRumors Member Mr. ***** (aka, Sammy.)

WooHoo!!

What, now people want awards for posting? Next somebody will ask for a money order for posting their "$0.02"

It will be as meaningless and tacky as the Academy Awards, and without the starlets in skimpy dresses. :(

... Why do I suddenly have the urge to go listen to some Black Flag albums...

So you're saying that people will paypal me 2 cents if I post a pic of me in a skimpy dress?

Let's see... 2 cents * (54593 members) = $1 091.86!!
$1 091.86 - PayPal fees = $10.

SWEET! Ten bucks! Vienna, here I come!
I'm so good at math.

Clothes

These are Mac freaks -- they'd probably pay more if you made those clothes out of Apple product boxes or Apple Store bags.

I personally think it's a great idea.

SitePoint, a forum about running websites, does this. They have special badges for helpful members, like "SQL Guru" and things like that.

I think it's a good way for people to see who gives good advice and is knowledgable, rather than reading two pages of an arguement to see which person comes out as knowledgeable on the subject.

As long as they are AWARDS and not REWARDs (ie - there should be no contest for them, any number of helpful members should be able to get them [not just one person per category]).

As long as it's not a contest, people won't feel cheated. If members prove to be very helpful on a particular subject, they should be recognized as such, and I don't think it should require reading everyone of their threads to recognize that. A nice little badge under their avatar would be great.

It encourages members to be helpful and polite, and at the same time, gives members (old and new alike) an idea of who's got good info on the subject.

I never trusted that whole thing. You offer your $0.02 yet people say "a penny for your thoughts" - someone's making $0.01 off this deal and I'd like to know who it is...
