Nobody needs the M5, so Apple has to sell it at a discount. I don’t understand why these things need to be updated so often anyway. A chip update every two years would be enough.
Lol what even is this line of thought.

”Yeah I was in desperate need of a computer right now. I could have had an M5 for the same amount of money but Sami makes the rules so, I had to settle for an M4 since Apple only release every two years. Less value for me but hey, what are you gonna do?”

$234?? How did you fail at basic math?!?! 🤣. And there are no discounts when clicking on a link. 🙄

It's nice that Expercom is offering this deal, but as someone who literally hasn't heard of them in decades (if it's even the same company) and doesn't live in Utah so can't visit their two store locations, what's my big advantage in buying from them?

$1,439 at Micro Center. I think they had it on sale for under $1,400 initially after its release.
Something weird is going on with Micro Center; they raised Apple prices last week. Their M4 Mini used to actually be $449, and now it's the same as Amazon's $499. Hopefully it's temporary. They still sometimes price match at Amazon, but I don't know if they'd price match Expercom.

Micro Center is cheaper, offering 10% off all available M5 models. And for those not near a MC, Best Buy price matches.

Glad to see it. They're still actually higher than Amazon on the M4 Air 13s, where they used to at least publish matching prices.

They usually used to publish matching prices during Prime Day sales, but this article says they can't honor a price match guarantee for "special sales" including Prime Day and Black Friday.

It's unlikely there's any Micro Center without a Best Buy nearby, so if Best Buy is lower and will honor Amazon Black Friday Amazon sales they're going to lose a bunch of business. I live over an hour away from MC now, and their lines are longer than the usually-empty Best Buys around here, so... yeah, this affects my plans. OTOH if you do plan to buy anything from Best Buy, especially for gifts, they have started the holiday return policy already (yay!), but as a general reminder, otherwise for most items they only offer 15 days (booo!) if you're not a paid tier member.

...which neatly brings me back to Expercom, and their 15 day return window. That's not even 15 days from getting the package to dropping it back off at UPS, though, that's from their ship date to the date they get it back in the warehouse. So really just like a week max for something to fall over dead? Especially during the holidays, with shipping taking longer each way? And we have to pay return shipping, even if it's dead (but undamaged) when we get it? Am I reading this right? I'm all for small businesses and especially local partners who will hold hands of people who need it, but with this policy it seems like they are actively discouraging non-local buyers who don't already have some ongoing relationship.

Micro Center has been selling the base Mac Mini for $449 forever. I think there are laws that prevent a merchant from advertising something as on sale without the item ever being available at the non-sale price. Therefore merchants have to occasionally take the item off sale. I suspect it will return to the $449 price shortly.

The same thing happened with the M4 MBA, it was priced at $849 for a while, then returned to $899, only to return to $849 a month or so later. At one point it dropped to $799, likely due to price match Amazon and Best Buy when they priced it there.

Micro Center has always been competitive on pricing (at least Apple stuff) and their service is fantastic. Love them.

Thanks, I'm less worried about them now.

You guys really do a solid for us with those discounts... though us is also US... wish there was someway you could hook us up here in the EU with those prices (for the 32GB/1TB for example I could take your deal and buy plane ticket to the US to pick it up and break even... and I'm including the fact I get sales tax/VAT back as a business).

LoL good one :)

I'm fine with Apple spec bumping whenever things are ready to go.

I usually buy preowned anyhow, so I like there to be a consistent supply of those on the market for me to choose from.
