Recently, the security settings of MacRumors' forums have been increased. As a result, users must have activated their accounts by verifying their email addresses to be able to post replies or new messages. This is accomplished by following the link in your activation email that you receive shortly after registering.

Previously, unverified users were able to reply to existing messages. So, many users may have noticed a recent inability to reply to messages when this change was made.

Activation emails have been resent to those with unverified accounts. Alternatively, you can use this url to request your activation email.

Note: if you change your email address, you must reactivate your account.

Just Curious

What happened to members #'s of posts? Was there a thread that I missed about this already? I'm not a big poster so I don't really mind, but as the post subject reads; I'm just curious.

Arn removed them to increase the number of legitamate posts. Some were trying to reach 500 so fast that they posted nonsense. It's to improve the quality of the forums.

They went a while back, here's the thread.

im glad this is happening.

i was going to post a thread last night on how ridiculous some of the forums have become.

i came here because people were intelligent and friendly. there were some flamewars but it was mostly in fun.

it seems the intelligence factor has dropped by a factor of 100000. people are in such a hurry to post, they dont even bother spelling the frickin thread titles correctly. thats annoying.

i dont want to be a member of a forum of a bunch of immature people. heres to better member screening.

this is defnitely a good thing, as I noticed that the first two posts on this topic were only ones that said "first post!" and "second post!"......hopefully things will clear out around here, but of course I have to mention the fact that it's easy to setup tons of multiple email addys for porposes like this so if someone really wanted to come onto the board to make trouble it still wouldnt be that hard.

I think that I'm most sick of the users who don't own a mac, plan on buying a mac and don't know anything about macs. Then they spam the boards and every other post of theirs is "I bought a Pentium because I play some games and do word processing, I really like MAC though"

Maybe we should have a short survey to screen new users.

Brilliant plan.

That way people like me would have been banned a long time ago.

Ah but ed, you have an iBook don't you? You have stated that you would like to buy a mac in the future. I am referring more to people who bring absolutley nothing to the community and mostly post about how PCs are better then Macs.

I do now, but awhile ago I would have fit into your category of people who fit your complaint:

I think that I'm most sick of the users who don't own a mac, plan on buying a mac and don't know anything about macs.

Yep, that fits me almost perfectly a few weeks ago.

A lot of the people who have been posting how much better PCs are over Macs recently have legitimate complaints though, mostly speed related, I haven't seen too many trolls lately, mostly multimedia people who say that the Mac isn't fast enough for them.

I have to agree with sparkleytone. While I don't claim to know all of the technical specs about Macs, I enjoy an intelligent and fun forum. I've been a Mac user since 1990 and would never change. Some of the other forums I have looked at (Spymac, etc...) seem more like a junior high hallway. I appreciate some of the good discussion that happens here and I have learned some things from some of you more tech savy members. This is why I chose Macrumors over the others.

Maybe I'll even buy a mug someday!:D

That description would have gotten me banned too with edvindow. :( But hey, my pb order is having some troubles, but I I'll have own an APPLE computer :p before the year is out.

I don't think banning would be such a good idea...many PC users thinking of buying a mac :p want to make educated purchases...that includes checking out the rumor sites to make sure that its the best time to buy a computer. I was going to buy in June, then I heard about MWNY, so I decided to browse the forums for more info, decided to be patient, and will be estatic when the patience paid off and I get a faster computer, better graphics, and the famous superdrive. :D

I also found a community that I enjoy posting with...:)

If you read what he said, it was more about pc users just coming in and bashing Macs and not pc users who appreciate or at least don't come across as zealots, bring chaos and suffering to all threads they reply to.

It is a mac site, and if you just want to come here to pick a fight, well, expect it to be a short one.

And edvniow and Over Acheiver, McCrain would be in the same boat and he's a Demi-God - I don't think its a problem with any member who contributes possitively in anyway to the site. And as for members being banned, some of them have been Mac Zealots, so it goes both ways - more the individuals problem and not the platform they use.

Let's all play nice,

D

I know.

That's why I only quoted part of it, to avoid any confusion to anyone who might see it and take it the wrong way.

Firstly, I was talking about PC zealots. Secondly, I never said anything about banning.

here, here, sparkleytone. you definitely have to filter through a lot of crap to get to the stuff you are interested in. though, one poster's crap, is another poster's interest, i suppose
