I just miss the days when it seemed like every rumor was a photo taken "between floors" .. in an elevator, at some airport, convention center, office building, whatever.

If one problem is about the site articles starting with promotions, maybe the site should organize them so that articles always appear before deals. It might look better than accidentally stumbling onto the front-page when a deal or two are at the top, at least.

It also doesn't make sense to me to show deals to visitors who can't even take advantage of the deals in the first place, like US-only deals still being shown to non-US visitors.

i agree. #arn says that about 50% of users are located outside the US so these deals are useless and potentially an irritation to half of MR readers.
 
I understand that there isn't always news - that's fine - but the site has started to feel "cheap" with so many interstitial ads.

The internet advertisers are only interested in supporting these sorts of sites if the user base can be sufficiently commoditized. In the end, it’s up to you.
 
This site rents out eyeballs, and the rates don't go up if the eyeballs are respected and esteemed.
