I really love my nearly 7-year-old AirBook—the first MacBook I've ever owned, and it has NOT disappointed ... until the past several months or so😞. It's showing its age and the amount of CONSTANT use I've put it through since buying it in December 2016.💻 (back when I had the funds to purchase it)

Trackpad: dead since August 2019; have been using an optical mouse since. WiFi connecting hardware: dead since July 2020; I've been using a dongle, since (taking up one of the two USB ports). A few months ago, I made the mistake of updating the OS, rendering the WiFi dongle unsupported, and then having to pay $100 for a tech to reinstall Catalina ... which is now compromising the performance of some apps and features.

And now ... the USB ports seem to quit working after a couple of hours of computer use; I either have to move the dongle to the second port OR connect a cheap, Amazon, 4-port, corded (dangling!) USB hub. Worse: reboot the computer, for the ports to work again for a couple of hours, only to repeat the aforementioned actions.

My AirBook is my lifeline. It has been dropped, travelled with me, and I rely on it for HOURS, daily. But, like me, it's showing its age (I'll turn 49 on October 29th). Wear, tear, and ... if ONLY I had a money tree in my yard, I'd BUY myself a new MacBook. Alas, paying rent, utilities, groceries, and pet care will ALWAYS usurp newer technology.

My first MacBook Pro (17") went strong for 7 years before I really wanted to features of the newest operating system. My second MacBook Pro (15") just celebrated its 10th birthday. Just recently I upgraded to a 15" MacBook Air. Each time I upgraded, the computers were showing their wear and age, especially the 17". I've found it absolutely amazing at how long these computers last. Like you, my computer travels with me daily and is used for many hours daily, they are true work horses.

If you haven't check these options out, they are worth a look and may fit your budget:
Apple Certified Refurbished products are perfect, I've purchased iPads, iPods, and AppleTVs in the past and have always been pleased with what I get.
OWC MacSales has great prices and several options from the last several years which can really help in the savings department.
