There is a trick to hold alt or option before going in to preferences, this will let you set the bandwidth in the debug menu. Once you do that it’s really solid and hardly any latency.
I had not know that, I am trying it now over Ethernet and its better but still not smooth as a native monitor.

Its functionality is built into the OS now.
Some of its functionality is; however...

Luna lets you connect via USB-C for no latency.
Luna lets you remotely access your Mac.
Luna lets you use your iPad as a primary display for a Mac.
Luna lets you use a Mac as a secondary display for another Mac.
Luna doesnt have a distance limit.
Luna treats your iPad or Mac as an actual display.
Luna supports older hardware.

What are the differences between this product and the Duet app?

Not a great product, imo. Even over a wired thunderbolt connection, the second screen is unusable for anything other than motionless text. Mac to Mac, not great.

If using Duet, is it the best to connect the iPad and a PC via a USB-C cable rather than paying annually for the Duet Air connection via wifi?

I’m surprised they are still in business. Literally any iPad you’ve gotten in the last 4 years has sidecar. Older iPads battery’s are already shot after that.

I’ll pile on the many reasons why “anyone want this it”. I have a perfectly good 27” iMac that can’t get macOS updates but can definitely install Luna and work as a 27” display for my new MacBookPro M1 Max.
If you plan to use the iMac second screen to play videos or scroll websites, you’d be in for a very laggy and practically unusable experience. I haven’t been able to get this to work well with various macs over the last few years, most recently a 2021 16” M1M and a 2014 15” Retina. Also my 2017 27” at work. Even using a wired thunderbolt connection produces extreme lag and pixelation. If you’re using it to just display something static, it would work.

Are you using a Luna dongle or just Astropad? Luna Display was meant to solve Astropad’s lag.

I don’t think Retina 27” are supported, at least at full res.

Works well with my non retina 27”. Hold alt or option going in to preferences and you can set bandwidth manually.

The dongle. Even at "low resolution" the thing is pretty much unusable, for me. Just haven't had great luck.

Linus shows it off pretty good, pretty similar to my experience:

Nope, even at low resolution I find the experience pretty so so. Glad you had some success. Mac to Mac Airplay is at least usable for video stuff, even if stuck at 1080 on older Macs.

Even wired over thunderbolt, I noticed it takes a while for the bandwidth to start ramping up (like playing a video full screen). Support told me about the debug menu trick and ever since it launches right in to max bandwidth and is really solid with almost no latency or compression blocking.
