The USB-C Pro dock does. My CCC backup drive is connected to mine. I know you can boot from it because that's how you enable encryption on the CCC backup, by booting from the backup.

I can't imagine a reason to buy one of these, really. Unless the power output capability trumps everything else, why would you ever choose 2x HDMI over 2x DisplayPort? The ports are exactly the same, otherwise.
THat’s interesting because I read a post from CalDigit on Twitter the other day saying that they didn’t know of any docks that did.

I’ve gone back to look and it seems they have corrected themselves:

I have Caldigit’s flagship dock, so I’d be losing a few ports with this. However a couple family members could definitely use this thing.

For anyone who doesn’t win, Caldigit’s docks are worth purchasing.
What's the reason to go this one over the other chunkier one?

No thank you. Bought a Caldigit USB-C dock a little over a year ago, and they already won't update the Ethernet drivers for Big Sur. Big pass on these folks.

OK, final update from me on this.

After much testing over the weekend my MacBook Pro 16" will not sleep when connected to this dock. I've tried fiddling with various settings and no luck.

An example of what happens:
I have iMessage turned on on my Mac. If I leave my Mac alone for a while or I manually choose sleep from the apple menu and then send or receive an iMessage from my iPhone or iPad, the display on my Mac comes on. It means it wasn't actually asleep at all. This happens even if Power Nap is turned off.

If you want your Mac to sleep, I would recommend avoiding this at all costs. At least if you have a MacBook Pro 16" or perhaps any Intel Mac. I cannot say how it performs with an M1 based Mac as I don't have one to test it on.

This one has dual HDMI, combined headphone/microphone jack and is cheaper vs the TS3+ (Chunkier one) which has a single DisplayPort, more USB ports, an optical audio port, separate headphone and microphone jacks, and a Thunderbolt port for expansion.

Hmmm, I guess my ideal dock sits somewhere between the two! Thanks for the explanation.
