I don’t know if things have changed since I left, but that would most likely be the kind of modification that makes them unserviceable.

If I'm remembering the iFixit videos right, slapping some color on these is the least of the issues regarding repairability, at least from a practical sense... Talking "0 out of 10" score. If you have a warranty or AC+ issue, the bud is flat out getting replaced. When it comes to Apple policy on modifications, maybe it's a deal-breaker right off the bat. Who knows.

This is something I’ve always wanted but could never justify the extra cost. Would love to win. However I just had my AirPods Pro replaced recently by Apple because of issues with scratchy noise feedback so it would suck if these had a problem too. Guess you’d still have the custom case. Kinda wondering if I should try to learn how to do this myself, you know, since I’m now jobless during a pandemic and have all the time in the world to practice on other objects and my old 1st Gen AirPods. Do they take them apart or do they just spend a lot of time masking everything carefully? I wonder what type of paint they use—automotive? Would probably need a small, pressurized application nozzle. Maybe if I got good at it I could sell colorized tech on the side to help pay for my mortgage.
