For this week's giveaway, we've teamed up with WaterField Designs to offer MacRumors readers a chance to win an Air Travel Backpack and an Air Caddy, both of which are perfect for use with Apple's iPads and Macs.

WaterField Designs makes a wide range of bags for Apple devices, and the Air Travel Backpack is its newest offering, announced earlier this year. Designed specifically for travel purposes, the 45L Air Travel Backpack is the maximum size allowed for a carry-on (16" x 7.5" x 22.5").

Priced at $419, the Air Travel Backpack has two separate compartments for tech gear and personal items, with the mobile office section equipped with padded sleeves for two laptops and a series of pockets to store your accessories.

The larger laptop compartment fits laptops up to 15" x 10", so it works with Apple's largest 16-inch MacBook Pro. The second compartment can also be usd for a tablet, and can accommodate the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with attached Magic Keyboard.

WaterField Designs created the Air Travel Backpack to serve as a mobile office, so it has a ton of pockets and compartments for organizing cables, cords, chargers, pens, earbuds, and more.

The personal items compartment has a large interior for holding clothing, shoes, and toiletries. Two sturdy straps are included to keep everything secure, and there are two mesh zipper pockets for smaller items.

Both main compartments of the Air Travel Backpack are lined with a bright yellow material to make it easy to see what's inside and find just what you're looking for.

Everything inside is kept secure through a D-ring that's able to attach to the double zipper pulls to keep it closed until you're ready to access it, and you can also lock the zipper pulls together as they're sized to work with a small lock. The Air Travel Backpack can be carried vertically, worn on the back, or carried horizontally like a duffel bag.

As with all WaterField Designs products, the Air Travel Backpack is durable, well-made, and designed to hold up to heavy usage for years to come. It is available in a black ballistic nylon with leather accents in various colors, or in a waxed canvas material that's water resistant.

As an optional accessory for the Air Travel Backpack, WaterField Designs offers the Air Caddy, a pouch that's meant to hold your in-flight entertainment options. Available for the iPad mini, iPad Air, or iPad Pro models, the Air Caddy is available in waxed canvas or ballistic nylon to match the Air Travel Backpack, and it is able to house your tablet and any accessories and add-ons you might need.

It's sized to fit inside the main laptop compartment of the Air Travel Backpack, and it's also the right size to tuck right into a seat back compartment, making it an ideal travel companion.

certainly looks nice, I'd just be concerned about size/weight as a backpack but maybe they're working on one with a roller option

I've been in love with 3way briefcases/backpacks lately. I might have even... spreadsheeted them 😳 Found this Japanese company that makes them in ballistic nylon, cordura or leather 🥳 Basically more structured/classy versions of the Patagonia's. Also, the one in this article seems nice.

This looks stunning.

I would have reservations about placing the waxed canvas version in an overhead bin though— Too easy to get scratched when other passengers are stuffing their carry-ons next to yours.

The ballistic nylon version would be better for air travel, if you don’t mind the full-grain leather getting scuffed a bit.

The mesh padding on the back expands to fit over the handles of a wheelie suitcase. That should help with any weight issues, at least prior to check-in.

No worries, just turn on the "Back Stretch" alert on your Apple Watch. That will get your back muscles strong enough to carry this backpack plus all your Apple gear in no time! 💪💪:D

I have multiple Waterfield packs and absolutely love them. This would be an excellent accompaniment for the ones I already have! Would love to win it!

When you’re looking at fashion items, prominent logos on the item is as solid a clue as you can get that it’s not the designers designing the product. They’re just the ones doing what the accountants tell them to do.

Any stylist you talk to will tell you to avoid logos wherever you can because they make you look silly. But almost All the fashion companies have logos on their products. Because it’s not the designers designing the products. It’s the accountants who want the advertising.

At first the pictures used in this article looked like this was one of the rare companies that doesn’t use logos. But you get to their web site, and there’s logos on everything.

Why does one compartment open longways and the other sideways? And why opposite? Seems like a lot of flipping and twisting to get to stuff. And there’s no “back” or “bottom” to the design. So you have to turn it over and put pressure on your electronics in order to pack or unpack your clothing?

Woah. I appreciate quality, but $800 for a backpack? Jeeeeesh.

It seems like a lot of money until you own a Waterfield product. The quality is incredible and they are bullt to last a lifetime.
Or until you see the ones the poster above linked to!

Depending on the way it's made and your personal aesthetic, I think the scratches and wear marks could look good. Initially with a new bag and just a few marks, it might look funny, but broken in would look nice imo.

It's like that awkward stage when you're growing out your hair. Looks good short, looks really weird and scraggly in that middle stage, then it looks good long. This was my learning from having long pandemic hair.

I get everyone wants to suck up and win the backpack, but $419 for a backpack? WTF?
Think of it as a suitcase that can be worn as a backpack. I suspect in most situations (like loading it into my car, etc.), I'd be carrying it by one of the two handles. However, if I need to lug it through the airport, having the ability to carry it as a backpack would be a real boon, especially if I'm not traveling with a wheelie suitcase. In any event, as a suitcase with backpack capabilities, the price is a bit more palatable--and so is the rather massive size.

It has a pass-through slot on the back that can be used to attach it to a wheelie suitcase.

As I said above, this looks more like a suitcase that can be worn as a backpack when necessary than a bag intended primarily as a backpack. Waterfield has a number of really nice backpacks already--ones that aren't quite as large as this case--several of which I am seriously eyeing for purchase when/if we ever return to some semblance of normal. And they have several nice minimalist sling bags that I use all the time. This bag serves a very different purpose IMHO.
