Macrumors has a history of doing giveaways with some shady third-party charging companies. For example, they've done a number of promos for Hyper chargers, but conveniently left this long-term partnership out of the news article earlier this year where it was noted that Hyper chargers were catching fire:

The third comment on that article is another reader calling Macrumors out same as this post.

A lot of these third-party chargers are cheaply made and potentially a hazard to customers, but Macrumors keeps offering them publicity.

I like this website but I think it's unethical to take promo money from companies without an established track record or a history of problems. Apple users typically like premium, reliable products and some of your recent promos don't pass the sniff test. Please do better, Macrumors.

GaN chargers are all the rage but getting a good combo of useful* charge ports isn't always that easy to find. This one seems to have the ports I would be interested in but I have no clue about the maker.

No kidding. I'll be that guy and say I cannot stand these poorly QCd Chinese knockoffs that have the wildest brand names. Lululook? Milady? TOMATOETC? Loveguyyes? Diakarumregb...
I try not to be too judgy long term.

LG started out as "Lucky Goldstar"; now it means "Life's Good". And their stuff is just as bulletproof as Whirlpool, KitchenAid, GE, and Bosch used to be. Now I have a bad@ss washer/dryer set from LG. They work fine, have been reliable for going on 18 months now, and have all manner of settings for just about anything I might need to clean before putting it on my body. I might be getting a refrigerator or dishwasher from them if my old Whirlpools give out, and an LG TV monitor could be on the list if I fire up that 8 year old Sam's Club Visio and it explodes from the stress of not being powered on for 6 months at a time.

Really, Whirlpool, GE, Bosch, Samsung, LG...these cats are all subbing out the manufacturing of their products anyhow. Your washer-dryer probably has all the same sheet metal and internal mechanicals that mine has. They just have different displays, control knobs, and apps that run on your smartphone. The badge is probably just stamped on there and silk-screened with the manufacturer's name you picked. You're probably even sending your warranty card to the same address as the cards that came with mine; just the name of the company is different!

Back in the day, we had strange-sounding upstarts Asus and Asrock. Gigabyte, anybody? SuperMicro? Same thing. We're just used to speaking their names now.

At first I thought it was a charger that had 256gb. While the heat might be an issue it would be an interesting idea.

The contest will run from today (December 16) at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time through 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time on December 23.
I was able to enter today after that time. I finished entering at 9:21 AM PST and the widget showed there were 98 minutes left to enter (i.e., until 10:59 AM PST).
