Recently my new MBP has been losing battery and even slightly running the fans. I checked this morning and it was this website Macrumors – which I did NOT have open(!). Quitting Safari fixed it. I had visited MR a few days back (which matches the timing), but I had no MR tabs in Safari and no other browsers. MR on my safari has often failed to scroll after a while and even freeze (and yes I think I had closed such a window). Why, of all sites, is it so often a problem on Safari, and why didn't tab closing kill it?

See composite screenshots.

Are you on the latest MacOS and Safari and do you have any extensions installed? It could be an extension causing an issue.

I have run into facebook taking 30gb+ memory but never this site. With the latest MacOS, it seems to have solved that issue.
