Change for the worse? Don't you think they're overused in some other forums? Like every single post in a thread.

Wow, you guys are really against change. I was asking if you want to add the smileys I posted in the 1st post. But it seems you guys prefer the forum to be the way it is. I wonder how ticked off some of you would be if Apple shared your enthusiasm regarding change.

Dude, we're talking about frickin' emoticons, not technological innovation. Against change? No - but change for the better, not for the worse. If I suggested you paint a giant pink unicorn on your car's trunk and you declined, are you then likewise resistant to change? :p

I like it all, I'm not complaining. But then, I'm one of the people driving others mad with smilies, yet I am still allowed to use them. And I shall enjoy my privilege. Hell, I live in the South and people get irritated at me for smiling at them, but I will NEVER stop doing it.:D

(For the record, I love MacDawg's paws; gives me warm and fuzzies.:p)

They're not irritated for smiling at them, they're jealous you have all your teeth!;)

The Dawg's paws are more a sig. than an emoticon.

It would be nice to see the emoticons brought a little bit into the web 2.0 era..

But still, then it would just be like ever other forum where every post is littered with a incomprehensible mess of smilies and text, as if the smiles were a form of punctuation...

It depends on whether the choice is good or bad.

And "It's an option, you don't have to use them" isn't going to work because somebody's bound to use them.

MR has some of the best-looking, most tasteful smilies I've seen on any forum. Just have a look at the ones in iChat to see how ugly they can be

The one smiley I wish we did have is a suspicious one...

I think that smileys are already used far too often without having even more of them. They remind me of the way that awful sitcoms have laugh tracks to tell you when something 'funny' is happening.

I agree. Although I use them from time to time (mostly to convey if I'm being sarcastic, poking fun, etc. for clarity) I prefer the concept of conveying my thoughts thorugh actual text as opposed to emoticons. Using a bunch of emoticons all the time seems thoughtless and lazy - I prefer to read posts in which someone has obviously taken time to organize their thoughts and construct a proper statement.

Are you kidding – you use smileys (and multiple smileys) in virtually every single one of your posts!

What if people (like me, er ) have trouble organizing thoughts and constructing a proper statement (I'm not talking about when I'm drunk either.), or even people who's first language isn't English?

1) They do not make up the majority of my posts, they very nicely complement them :) (<-- see? :D) (<--see again??)

2) I am a hypocritical bastard - where have you been the last few years?!?

:D

As long as they don't rely on emoticons to provide their post's content, I'm fine. Typing pretty much anything up is a sign that they've put thought into what they want to say as opposed to typing OMG!!!1!!! followed by multiple emoticons. ;)

Plus, again, there's the bastard thing. (there's another emoticon for you)

I would like to see the site brought into the web 2.0 era. I loveeee Macrumors but think it needs some cleaning up.
