Had an idea in a resurrected thread. Why not make the Macrumors song?

GGJstudios got a great start (my version sux worst than my karaoke "skills"). Perhaps we should put all the site rules together to make an epic video! (And maybe Arn should be recorded singing it) =p

    Let the poem create itself...

Bowie, Cobain, Radiohead, and others have successfully used techniques similar to William S. Burroughs' method of using cut ups to create song lyrics.

Pick out a thread @ MacRumors. Print it out. Take a pair of scissors and cut through the pages -- lengthwise, for example -- and shuffle the columns of text. Put them together randomly. Experiment. Read the newly constructed message. Enjoy.

    Paper and scissors. So retro.

There ought to be an app for that. It could even be a web app: JavaScript seems capable enough to do this.

Does anyone recall the Spymac theme song from back in 2004? I think it was a cover of the Barenaked Ladies - One week.

Software that perform "cut ups" have been around for quite a while -- they're sometimes called "travesty generators".

Back in 1989, there was a famous series of forged Usenet postings that used a phrase-frequency-based travesty generator to simulate the writing styles of several well-known Usenet flamers. The resulting "cut ups" were made from text samples of the flamer's earlier postings. [1]
