can you imagine how long it would take to get through a click on "New Posts"?!?!?!

Even looking at a single forum there's 5 pages worth of threads that have been posted to in the last 10 minutes. They appear to have disabled both the normal search and also new posts search.

Based on a phpBB forum I run, the database works out at about 1MB per 1,000 posts, so their database will be approaching half a terabyte.

the number 1 site is mind-boggling... does anyone know anything more about them? how are they moderated, etc.

There's a bit of information on the link I posted earlier, and there's more on the wikipedia page for it. There appears to be different groups of moderators for each forum on the site.

ow many servers does our Macrumors run ?

2 for the forums (plus another that does only the main site) - just a slight difference! :)

Yeah, it's mad over there. You and me would fit right in. Wanna sign up together?
I don't even think you can post enough to "fit in" over there.

Somebody that could beat MR's own Sam *****. :p

Of course he didn't last long here and went on to that lemony site.

From the Wikipedia reference:
"Even though the site is not generally gender biased, there appears to be almost twice as many females as there are males on the site."

I'm joining for sure. With that many members, and 2/3 being female, there has to be some in my area....and we all know that anime-loving females are easy  ;)

The overall stats are amazing, both for Gaia as a monster and MR as a great Mac site. At least we are moving up and the Windows site is coming down :)

Ah, but what is the average female's age there???

I'm curious what that site is for - It's blocked by my coporate IT though. Can anyone summarize?

I think its main purpose is to waste productivity, which is probably why it's blocked ;) It's billed as a roleplaying community, so seems to be a site where people visit to chat, while playing the 'game'. The game part lets you collect 'gold' by browsing & posting and then you can buy & sell virtual items with the other people online, amongst other things.

Looks like anime-obsessed people doing cos-play online. Instead of a 'tar next to your user name you have a little anime character (which I guess you deck out as you see fit) and as for the posts, they're in speech bubbles (think along the line of iChat but even more bubbly).

No idea what the average age would be, probably younger than I should humor

You can read the summaries from the Wikipedia link that was posted above. I can visit the homepage here at work, but anything after that is blocked by Corp.IT :p I just read the summary and assumed it wasn't something I really wanted to take part in....or had time to take part in regardless of want

haha an anime-rpg on top yikes.... but congrats for macrumors 412 place... with that many forums on teh intarweb it's not a bad result... not at all

I wonder how they would describe us?

All the more reasons to allow us to spam like humping rabbits so we get to number one! :D

I don't think humping rabbits spam.....but they might make spam from humping rabbits.

*dusts hands* One post closer to 2 mil :)

this list proves stats don't mean everything, I mean spymac is many times bigger on that list, yet it's a huge waste of a user base and most of them probably just signed up for the free webspace or something. macrumors is such a better community than spymac, makes me wish my 3200 spymac posts could be on MR instead  anyone want to give me credit if I promise never to go back there again? lol ;)

I'd like to see their server and bandwidth bills.

If this bird flu keeps up, we may indeed see rabbit flavored spam replacing all those chickens.

Can't wait for the Kentucky Fried Rabbit franchises to open. :p

Some of those statistics are just mind-boggling. And I thought myself and some of the other 601s here were bad! ;) I don't know how those people would find so much time to post... have some of them won the lottery and have nothing else to do all day than sit at home on their computer on Forums? Yikes!

I guess if nothing else, now I don't feel so bad about all the time I spend on MacRumors... ;) :D
