Put a serial port on the powerbooks. It's the only thing that is currently stopping me from getting a powerbook right now. Only reason I need to have it is to connect to routers/switches on their console port.

Yeah, and build in those 5.1/4 inch Floppy drives again.. *urks*
A serial port would really be a step back.

how about apple ask IBM really nicely with sugar on top to please give us the GODDAM 3 CORE 3.2GHZ G5 THAT THEY GAVE MICRO$OFT FOR THE XBOX AFTER APPLE, M$'s MORTAL ENEMY, HELPED DEVELOP THE DAMN ARCHITECTURE IN THE FIRST PLACE

for those of you who dont know, and didnt gather this from my rant:
ibm is supplying microsoft with triple-core 3.2ghz powerpc chips, while telling apple we cant have anything better than the 2.7ghz chips were getting. (source: a gaming magazine, name forgotten, that i read while i was supposed to be working)

chaos86, console chips and computer chips aren't really comparable because they're designed to do different things. Nevertheless, I agree that IBM has seemed to be favouring the gaming industry over the Mac community with PPC development. :(

If you do some research on this topic you will see that the processor''s in the xbox360 are not the same as used in powermac G5's, they are far more geared to consoles and for running OSX wouldnt have near the power of the current dual G5's but for graphics etc they are better...

Just because they have the same name doesnt mean they are the same processor's so dont think IBM are be extra nice to microsoft as they arent,

ShadoW :p

Then we could play oregon trail from the IIe days on our new powerbooks. :p

I'd like to see the built in tablet too... make the touch pad a little bigger (maybe 3x2, and have a software pref. to enable/disable it.

Of course they have. The gaming industry represents a much larger chunk for PPC processors than do Apple's requirements for G5's - Apple's slice of IBM's semiconductor division is ~1%...IBM simply doesn't care about them because it's such a small percentage of their PPC market. As you know, IBM PPC's are going to be powering all three of the next gen consoles - they'll be shipping a TON more chips to MS, Sony and Nintendo than Apple. Apple's switch to x86 was a no-brainer, I'm glad they did it. It'll mean cheaper, faster, cooler Macs and probably will increase the amount of product line updates too!

To keep the thread on subject, though...

I'd like to see a Bluetooth MightyMouse, which I'm sure is in the works. I'd also like to see the next generation PowerBooks use better screens. The 12" PB has a sorry screen compared to some competition (re: brightness) - they should also make it WXGA instead of 1024x768.

I'd like to see the 15" PB use a 15.4" WSXGA+ or a BTO option for a 15.4" WUXGA rather than the 15.2" screen - they are more common now and moving to 15.4" standard would probably lower the costs as they are all over the place in PC's and 15.2"s I have only ever seen in PB's. For the 17", they should offer the 1920x1200 HD screens that other manufacturers are shipping now as a BTO option or better yet, standard. After all, this the "year of HD" or so says Jobs.

I'd also like to see the ability to EASILY replace the Airport cards in new PB's and iBooks - with the Pre-N and N standard coming, I'd like to pop in an N card EASILY when they come out. All you need is an extra door on the bottom or to stick the card next to the RAM slots and make the door a little bigger.

ALSO - I'm sure this is in the works too, but a 2-mouse button trackpad on the PB's and iBooks. My prediction is that they'll have a single button with 2 sensors like the MightyMouse.

Otherwise, I think they're doing a good job.
