I think some of the ideas posted here are a bit far fetched-after all, its only three years from now. I expect the G5 to be at 3.5 or 4ghz, and possibly a dual core, not some crazy quad core. Three years ago, the MDD came out at 1.25ghz, sure a new chip came out, but nothing spectacular. I don't see the ipod going over 120gb's.(possible vid capability)

1.25GHz to 2.5( almost 3 soon ) is a huge % jump. And 3 years is a very long time in computer years.

That's only because of a new chip design, which happens for apple about every every 5 years or so, so maybe in 2010 there will be a huge change in speed.

It would be the end of 2008, but due to supply and temp problems, they have taken about a year per speed boost, so I figured 2010.

Maybe they will work out te heat problems out quickly. Maybe they will learn from the G5. :)

It;s not really the the g5 per se, it's that modern chip designs have reached their limit. So maybe the g6 will be a quantam computer ? :D

i think that the coolsest things that are coming up are definetly interface

-full imersion vurtual reality- where electronics are actually in your brain, and intereact with you in such a way (directly to your nerves) that whatever they do is what is actually happening- and can be mixed in with reality (real reality??) you could be sitting on the beach and think beach boys and it a song would play, in the most beautiful sound possible- no more stereo/5.1... it could be full 360 complete sound, and your brain would think it was coming from outside.

an optical part could allow slightly visible options to appear out of the air in front of you, and also could be used for entertainment- it would appear completely real.

finally with touch and feel you could just entirely live in a box with an IV and have VR life (scary as **** i know) you could be anywhere, with full sight sound smell and touch- anything you can think up- it is.

- on a more realistic note, a wireless connection between all electronics would be great- everything communicates dircetly and flawlessly over a series of wireless communications standrads- cpu's- screens- peripherals networks internet storage everything

/loooong ass post

hartsft, your post seems to have come directly from the 70's...

EDIT: I didn't want to post again, but the above comment was supposed to be a joke. I think you took it like a joke, but I just wanted to make sure. I should've included a ;). Now back to our normal programming...

I don't know about you guys, but all this stuff "in your brain" and such is just so unnatural, I don't see why anyone would go for that. RFID is scary enough, just keep it on the outside...

yeah.. kind of amazing that we are approaching that point- i wouldnt go that far though.
an external music/video player that connected to the brain like that with thought-based commands i would go for.

David Pogue did an awesome Keynote address at MWNY 2003 on the future of the Mac. He used his usual keen wit and humor. There was a design school in New York that helped him to develop the designs. Just wish that there had been tapes made available. Such thing as the keyboard being like a laser on a surface. There wouldn't be a display, it would be projected.

The next chip you're most likely to see in a Mac is Sony's new CELL chip. It's gonna be the best thing going in order to keep up. That's unless someone happens to come out with another chip technology.
