I would very much game on my Macbook pro but the keyboard seems a bit fragile for some intense key tapping. Say for games such as Starcraft 2 and what not.

Been gaming on my laptop for almost 3 years now. Keyboard's still working. You'll be fine eh.

And I'm a college student too. I was 17 when I bought my 15" Macbook Pro. I'm a very weak female, and I'm only 97 pounds. It wasn't that big a deal walking 2 miles everyday to school carrying my 15" MBP.

Made a huge mistake buying the 15 inch Macbook Pro

I don't understand asking others what you can do with your new computer. If you don't know you should return it and get the 13" Pro or an Air

Sell it, then buy a 13". A current-gen 15"\MBP in mint condition shouldn't give you much monetary loss.

Or just be psyched that you just bought a very nice computer with a very current cpu instead of a good computer with a slightly old processor. In a few years, you'll be happy you went with the 15".

That said, I have a 13", and I love the price point and footprint of it. I'd love more power, and might get a 2011 13" next year if they stick i5's in them. But for now, 13" is my fave.

or do some gaming. don't regret buying a 15" - the 13 inchers are worthless (even surfing the web is a pain on a small screen).

I beg to differ. I love my 13". It travels quite well and I enjoy my 21" monitor when I am at home (which is certainly better than your 15" screen :p ). You don't always have to use the screen that comes with it, that's what clam-shell mode is for. And 13" is fine when I'm needing it to be mobile.

Maybe you don't like it, but it is not worthless (if it was, why would it be one of the better sellers. It's a better seller than your 15").

Wow! Really?

LOL That thought process reminds me of those people who hook up their tower to their 62" HDTV with no intentions of using it as a media center...

I have a 13" MBP that I've owned for almost a year and I could not ask for a better computer. It does everything I throw at it and then some. I even play CoD:MW2 on mine. TBH its a little laggy, but perfectly playable.

That being said I have only owned 3 laptops. A 15" acer, and a 10" MSI Wind(which I ran Mac on LOL, my first Mac experience and led me to my MBP), and my MBP.

Based on MY needs, the 15" made me feel like I should just use my desktop. The 10" was great, but text was small, and the trackpad was miniscule. My 13" is right where I need it to be. I do alot of walking, since my town is only about 2 miles wide(save gas money where I can right?), and even though the 15" is only 1 pound more, that pound adds up after a while of carrying it.

This is not to say I wouldn't enjoy a 15" MBP, I'm sure I'd love it, but I'm also sure it would spend alot more time sitting on a desk.

Love my 13". I was at a training seminar yesterday taking notes on my 13" Pro and the battery lasted 12 hours!!! I was really surprised. I had a 15" Pro and decided it was too big when I had it and got the 13" and completely happy. I have a home PC for now that is powerful so no need for a powerful laptop on the go which a laptop is for even though this laptop is still pretty powerful for my photo editing stuff.

So I made a really bad decision and bought the 15 inch which is about 500$ more than for the 13 inch.

I know I know, I did it because of the screen real estate size and I was being really stupid about not thinking about having an external monitor for the computer.

Now I don't really plan on selling it and I don't know what to do other than make the best of it.

The specs are much better compared than the Macbook pro 13 inch so I was wondering what I can run to make the best out of the screen real estate and the specs.

I know Photoshop and Imovie is one but hell I don't even use Photoshop or Imovies that often.

What exactly are you asking?

I believe he is asking others what he could use his laptop for?
How can anyone else possibly tell you what to do on your system??

I think he should use it to watch porno. That is the only possible use for such a machine. Do not run any other applications! Only porno!! That is my advice. Ok, ok... Angry Birds would also be acceptable.

To be frank here, I think the Macbook Pro to be a worthless machine in general.

In the future, I'll be getting a Macbook Air for my day to day usage and a OMFGWTFBBQ production PC for my hard work, for the same about of money you paid for a 15 inch macbook pro.

A 1000 dollar PC has pretty much the same capabilities as a 3000 mac pro, and the macbook air is far superior in lightness to anything that a macbook pro can offer.

Just my 2 cents. I own a 15 inch macbook pro, and my dad owns an air, and I am incredibly jealous of the air now and it's incredible lightness of it.

You really don't know what you're talking about. You absolutely can not build a comparable peecee for $1000. Don't take my word - go ahead and price it out. Don't forget you need a Xeon server processor and ECC server memory in your build.

Tell me what you can do with a Xeon processor and ECC server memory that I cannot do with a Core i7 and regular DDR3?

Funny as the Air has major limitations. It isn't upgradeable and you are limited on ram and HD space. Reason I got the 13" as you have best of both worlds in the Pro. It is fairly light, small, and is upgradable. I have 8gb ram and 500gb HD. Let's see you do that in the AIR. Pretty much you throw that machine away in a few years when apps require more ram.

LOL you just proved you have no clue what you are talking about in this paragraph.

Render movies at a fraction of the time (quad core vs dual), and have it sit under my desk while I leave my room with my macbook air sipping my coffee in my den watching a HD movie on my 52 inch TV.

Wanna compare what your experience would be like walking around with a laptop at 80-90C on your lap while it's incredibly slow trying to render a movie while trying to surf the internet and trying to stream a HD movie to your tv?

We both paid the same amount.

Prove to me you know wtf you're talking about rather than pointing out nothing. I know what I'm talking about, I doubt you do. ECC ram and Xeon processors are tailored for such a SMALL area of the computing community. I graduated computer engineering and barely ever require the use of ECC ram or a Xeon processor. Heck, our render farms use Core i7's and they perform pretty normally.

There is a reason SERVERS use these. That is all I will say to someone who has no experience in this.

So you're complaining because the product has a feature that you don't need? That seems kind of lame. That's like complaining about a Porsche because it doesn't seat 8 passengers. Or complaining about a minivan because it can't go 200 mph. It isn't a shortcoming of the product - it is your own inability to select the right tool for the task at hand.

i have 4 HP servers waiting approval to be purchased. each one is dual x5650 Xeon's. 6 core and 12MB of cache each CPU. how much cache is the i7?

i Core CPU's can't be used in dual CPU configurations

Yes I was being a complete idiot buying a 15 inch...

You have buyer's remorse. Unless there's a psycho analyst here on the forums you'll just have to live with it.

Now I want to know good programs to utilize the best out of my 15 inch MBP in terms of the screen size and the specs.

Typically, one knows what they want to build before buying the tools to do it.

I say go to a 6 year engineering school, then get AutoCad. :D

If you don't mind me asking, what do you use your 15 inch for?
I don't know... let me ask Mrs. Richard1028...
