Some people have nothing better to do with their time then to try and critique people in every shape and form. Michael is quite offended by your photography apparently. Definitely a visual learner.

No, Einstein, I wanted to see the extent of the damage so I could see if it was worth fixing.

Looks like you scratched through quite a few traces. Unless you're VERY comfortable with micro surgery, I'd get Apple to replace your logic board.

I didnt take a gamble by buying a 3 year old machince, I bought it new. And paid alot of money for it, and all though it may be "outdated now" its still a very good computer. I will take my chances on getting it fixed. Thanks everybody for you help. ( the ones who did help)

Dont quote me on this. But I believe genius offer a flat rate repair. Or if you are lucky, they might give it to you for free if you are sincere enough.

I think that is the best route. It is not that old and for hopefully under $400 can be fixed. Expensive mistake, but not worth losing the whole laptop over, in my opinion (well, if the only option was Apple, then I would say forget it).

Sorry. I misunderstood your opening post. It says you recently bought a Macbook Pro a few months ago, and then a month ago, purchased a 2009 macbook pro. You didn't specify which laptop had the trackpad problem, and since you attempted to fix it yourself, I thought it was out of Apple Care - and the only one applicable would be the 2009 model.

Good luck getting it fixed.

You need to go out and purchase a brand new laptop for you wife before you do anything else.

Then, sell the old one for parts. Consider it an expensive lesson. ;)

Not really sure why some of you are being rude? I took the best picture I could with my iPhone, and obviously if you read the discription you would have read that I poked a hole in the trackpad ribbon and scratched the logic board, so common sense would lead anyone (even a ********* idiot) to look around the area where the ribbon connects to the logic board. For those of you who are giving me real answers thank you I appreciate it, for those who are talking smack find something better to do than make crappy comments to someone who said straight up I made a mistake. Thanks

I had a hard time finding the scratch myself.

Anyways, PCB stands for Printed Circuit Board. Essentially, there are tiny, super thin, strips of conductive material. PCB's allow for what would othewise take a whole bunch of wires to reproduce.

You broke one of the 'wires' (or more, I don't know) the way to fix that would be to reestablish a connection between the points that were severed, where the mark was made. Its possible, maybe... but it sure wouldn't be easy.

Since the board is shot otherwise, it might be worth giving it a shot...

In the future, your apple store should have been the first visit for an issue like this, ESPECIALLY if it was still under the one year manufacturers warranty.

Also, everyone is being so rude because you don't seem to realize what you're asking, and because you don't realize it, you've gotten several suggestions to take it into Apple already.

Most of the people on this forum who would reply to a post like yours, have an idea, and probably deal with family members breaking their stuff all the time, and thinking there is always an easy / cheap fix, when there isn't.
