I have to make a magazine for my indesign class. We had to pick from a list of artist and compare them. I got Milton Glaser and Paul Rand, Here is the covers both of them are not close to being finished, just rough layouts. Which one do you like if any?

If I use the one with out the pictures of them, I'm gonna included them in like there own profile type section kinda like a skateboarding, snowboarding, or sports mag that has and interview type.

Oh Yeah, that pac-man looking guy, is the "G" in Baby Teeth font made by Milton. (if your didn't already know)

I like the first one, although it seems a bit busy, but the second one is too bland.

I like the second one, but really do not like the black type for their names. It's opacity, which gives it the illusion it was written on there and the pen was picked up, is just too distracting and seems to take away from the importance of their names being on there.

On the first one, the pictures aren't large enough to be terribly impactful. I like the second one a tad better. Is more text going in the negative space on that one? If so, you might want to consider some sort of typographic emphasis on the names Milton Glaser and Paul Rand.

Generally, when I design a magazine cover, I have a hierarchy in mind: First people see the image or graphic, then the title or description of the image, then the name of the magazine, then anything else.

I really dig the treatment of the title. Nice work.

I was trying to get a little inspiration from the artist.

I like the first one, but I think the photos need a different treatment. One image is small, with text getting in the way and the second is much more simple.

I'd choose a different image of the first guy and then blow up the photos BIG (it all seems a bit timid at the moment). Try merging them into the background.

Ooh, I have an idea. How about using an ampersand in the background so that is fits with the whole 'versus' idea, and also works in conjunction with the two names. It would a nice way to fill up the background and make it seem a little more complex.

Too much going on in that last one. Nothing has any emphasis over anything else (remember your hierachy of information!)

    I preferred the first one.
