Magellan Roadmate Announcement!!!

  • Compatible with iPod touch 2nd & 3rd Generation - (N/A), I have a 3GS
  • Improved Speedometer Accuracy - Still not fixed :mad:
  • Customizable speed warnings - Pretty cool. I also like how the "Speed Limit" is displayed on screen at all times instead of just when you are speeding. Nice improvement. :)
  • Click on a POI on the Map for more information. You can route to or call it with iPhone. - Nice added feature, and very useful.
  • Customizable, multi-destination routing - Haven't tried this yet, but it looks very promising. I have often wanted to tailor my trip to a specific route, and this looks to be a good solution. I will keep you posted.
  • Use the improved music player without leaving the Map screen - Nicely integrated. Appears to be the same interface, just more easily accessible and more seamlessly embedded.
  • Address entry improves routing to contacts in address book and sorts city options by distance - This feature still isn't working for me, most notably when an address has an apartment number, unit, suite, etc. Hopefully this will be fixed sooner rather than later, because I am often looking to navigate to an address in my address book...without success. :mad:
  • Ability to plan a trip in simulation mode with up to 16X FF, Rewind, Pause and Next - I'm not quite sure of the importance of "simulation mode", so I haven't used this feature yet. Could somebody please shed some light on the usefulness of it? Please. :confused:
  • Find My Car now also in OneTouch menu - Cleaner integration. Nice added integration.

Overall UI enhancements tailored to the phone navigation environment: - I appreciate all of these enhancements. They make the whole experience easier and more enjoyable. :p
  • Larger Back button, larger vehicle indicator,
  • direct Map access button,
  • larger placement of Music button,
  • Tap car icon to save "current location"
  • Improvement on the panning experience


Magellan...PLEASE fix the speed accuracy and the address book address routing. I know we are only on version 1.1, so hopefully future updates will address not only these concerns, but others that have been mentioned on this forum (and in the App Store reviews). Thanks for listening.
 
Great app. Wish I waited 3 day$ to buy it. Oh well I guess thats the way it goes. I have noticed a disappointing glitch with the locate button. When on the highway it does not show you what exit #'s (Only street names) are ahead or behind you like every other Magellan I have owned. Also, when using with my car stereo I've noticed that it will not mute the music when giving directions. If I use the headphone jack it works but not when I use the charging port.

like I dittoed you earlier in the thread about 1.0, I have to say to your post:
x2 on all of what you said, totally agree.... and the POI are better but still a couple years old.....

the MPH doesn't bother me; but it boggles my mind that a GPS Programmers can't get that right..... i mean my 1988 Ratheon/Loran was only off a few MPH at 50mph :rolleyes:...(isn't MPH kind of GPS101) but still a GREAT AND NEEDED update for sure... I will start using it more just because the UI is so much easier to use

one question: how do you cancel a route and just get back to the map while underway (i'm missing this and it's probably easy as heck)

Full disclosure on my part: I did win this app in the "question contest" but I didn't want to give a review in the App Store because I didn't want to bash it. This update will definitely make it my goto GPS (xmotion gps drive, gmaps & copilot) I was thinking of buying one of the "sale" gps's like navigon or tomtom but now i'm holding off.......

Two ways...

You can either hit "Menu", and then click the location arrow with a red circle with a cross through it...button.

OR, you can click the "OneTouch" button and do the same thing.

....and then just click the "Map" or "Back" arrow at the top to get back to the map. I hope this helps bud. :D

Great app. I wish I didn't buy it a couple day$ ago. My only two complaints are when you're on the highway and press the locate button it does not show you the exit numbers that are in front or behind you. The locate only shows street names. Every other standalone Magellan GPS I have owned always shows exit numbers and street names. Second, when controlling the iPod through the pin port with my car stereo the music does not fade when the program is giving directions like it does if I utilize the headphone port. #2 might be fixed through settings? I've tried everything under the audio settings and have not been able to fix it. I can hear the navigation voice being drowned out by music but cannot make out what is being said.

As of right now, the only places that the Premium Car Kit is available are through our website directly, Amazon, and eventually Best Buy (probably in the beginning of next year).

The App manual should be available sometime today. However, the manual for the Premium Car Kit will be released sometime before January 4, 2010. I will let you know if anything changes.

to those who have this app, how is the lag in terms of button presses and smooth operation of the program on a 3G? What's the load time like? I currently has iGoMyway which does a nice job, but the Magellan app looks intriguing. I'm scared away from Navigon right now because of the reports of serious lag on 3G's.

Map Question

Hi Maggie, I have been using the app for a week or so now and for the most part think it does a great job. The biggest annoyance for me doesn't have to do with functionality per se, but rather a major highway project was just completed in my area and several exits were reconfigured, moved or eliminated. Obviously the maps do not reflect this. Is there a planned mechanism / schedule for map updates?

We are terribly sorry for the inconvenience. As the current version has the latest map data, the next release is planned and tentatively set to be available on the app store middle of next year.

Hmmm .. not the latest Navteq map set. My iGoMyWay that I bought has 2Q Navteq maps. I like Magellan's interface better though, but with an update planned for Mid-2010, the maps will essentially be one year old before they're updated.

Maggie says next version of map will be out mid-next year ... but that doesn't guarantee that Navteq will have your construction project updated on the map set.

... I would suggest going out to the Navteq Map website and submitting a recommendation to update the maps for your area ... in my experience, it takes the mapping companies 3-6 months to respond to suggested fixes in their maps ... and that may be if your lucky :rolleyes:

i'll start off by saying this new version is GREAT! it's now my go-to GPS
something to tell the devs that is kind of a PITA though....

say an address is "505 West Main St" in my contacts.....
gmaps, motionx & copilot can decipher that address.....
RM2010 seems to:
- sometimes not want the "WEST" at all
- sometimes want a "W" instead of "WEST"
- sometimes it will find "505 West Main St"
- kind of a crap shoot what it wants but the others apps can decipher it in multiple formats or those apps will ask you "is 505 w main st what you mean?" etc....

and inside 2010 when it gives you "the contact address cannot be used" it doesn't give you a way to type in the address inside 2010... you have to go outside the app to your contacts, change it in your contacts then go backinto 2010.... don't get me wrong it does give you the ability to type in an address in 2010, but when you are using your contacts the address is on your phone contacts..... the other GPS apps give you a chance to change the contact address inside the app.....

with such GREAT customer service (Especially on this forum) and with the new release last week, like I said above it's my Go-to GPS and can't wait for future updates......
