Hi, I'm new in this forum, so thank you for reeiving me.

Before starting, sorry for my English, basically I use the Google translator.

Recently, Apple announced the new keyboard with trackpad, which on its website specifies that it is compatible with 2018 models.

The point is that both in Magic Kyeboad and in the case of folio, and despite being compatible, it only allows you to buy it in the second generation configuration; So I'm concerned that Apple will only sell keyboards with the camera gap for the ipad pro 2020 ... it would look bad in 2018 ipad pro, leaving a gap considerably empty.

Do you think that in the future they will give the option to choose? Or, conversely, should we settle for that gap?

thanks.

Welcome aboard. It's hard to guess what Apple will do but my own guess is that they won't put out a different version. Whether the aesthetics of a gap is problematic, that's a personal perspective but it wouldn't bother me. It's the price I have issues with - I can't see paying $350 for it for my 12.9 Pro. But that's just another personal perspective.

I too would not be put off if there is a gap, near the camera. I’m just happy that Apple is getting a trackpad keyboard out for the 2018 iPad Pro.

That said the price seems high, especially if you’ve already purchased the original version like I have. The new version is cool though and I’m tempted.

Brydge, a non-Apple brand, version is $229.00 for the 2018 12” iPad Pro As a pre-order

it’s good to have choices.

Yes. I use the Logitech Slim Folio Pro with my 2018 12.9 Pro and like it - especially at $129. I also prefer a mouse over a trackpad.

I'm not too concerned with that gap, my only concern is the added width coming with that new hinge, might not fit my current cases.

It is to be seen how well this works. Some podcasters have had prototypes which were designed for the pre 13.4 APIs. These had no trackpad support so it pretends to be a mouse. This leads to some slightly odd behaviours and poor multitouch support. I'd wait for full reviews (and I say that as a Brydge user)

I just checked the apple website, and you can no longer purchase the Smart Keyboard Folio for the ipad pro 2018 (really if you can, but from now with the gap in the camera).

Yes, you can live with that, but taking into account that they are products of more than 300 and 200$ respectively, I think it has not been carried out in the best way.

Amason still has the old version.

I have a 2018 11“ pro with both the standard cover and keyboard cover and now I want the new one.

A possible option is to get one of those camera covers they make for the Xs and 11s that make them look like 11 Pros. They supposedly don’t impede camera quality and should adequately fill the space of the new MKB.

I'm not in favor of this type of solution, but it seems like a good idea. I wonder what will happen to the flash

I don't understand the point of not making a keyboard that fits the 2018 model, especially considering the price.

^ I would imagine it’s because Apple’s accountants deemed it not worth it, the engineers concurred that it doesn’t affect functionality, operations said having one model saves manufacturing and logistics costs, and the marketers were happy with focusing on the future....who knows?

According to the manufacturer of that camera cover, it doesn’t affect flash, but looking at the back of my iPad now, I don’t think it will be that much of an eyesore if left as-is....
