The keyboard is fantastic but the fingerprints/stains in the cover are horrible. Not sure why apple is using this texture.

I am considering having white but I guess will get dirty and not a big fan of the color.

Is there any skin that can be put on top?

Companies make skins for the old model. I’ve always used the white cases with this type of material and haven’t had any problems but your results may vary.

Sopiguard has them available now for the M4 and DBrand will soon if not already. I used Sopiguard on my previous MKB but it was tedious for me getting it applied properly. I’m considering skipping it this time but I am considering a much more expensive option of a Burton case that covers the exterior of the MKB preventing these issues. Not for everyone but one option.

I had the previous generation MKB in black. As much as I kept my fingers clean when I used the MKB, the keyboard still showed oil marks (even though I cleaned the keyboard). I ultimately sold it and purchased the white MKB, which so far has been better at keeping clean. I suspect the new MKB is the same way.

White is much better at staying clean than black, after having had both for previous generations. I went with black this time around because I like the look of the black keyboard deck more, but immediately put a skin on it (from SopiGuard) to avoid fingerprints. Ordered one from Dbrand as well which should come by the end of the month.

It’s brutal in black. Had white previously and had no idea how bad the fingerprints would be. Just ordered a skin from sopiguard.

I want a skin just for the bottom - anyone know where I can find that. I haven’t really had issues with my previous white one getting messed up, but have gotten a little dirt/scuffing on the edges from moving it around on surfaces.

I’ve only applied skins to the bottom; as you mentioned that’s the only part that is subject to some kind of abrasion. But I’ve always had to order a whole set even if I’m not going to use any of the other pieces. I usually get the Sopiguard ones.

I just ordered a Sopiguard skin for my 11” to hold me over until the Burton case starts shipping. I’ve used Dbrand in the past, and those are great (very oleophobic), but not available yet. It‘s frustrating that the skins are even necessary - couldn‘t Apple just tweak the MKB outer material design so it’s more oleophobic?

So far it’s been easy to clean any smudges and fingerprints off the exterior. I use iKlear and a microfiber cloth, as I do to clean the screens of the ipad, phone and watch. Wiping with that, the exterior returns to pristine. Subjectively I think the material in the new MKB may be better that the previous one. But I have also ordered the Burton case. When you get yours I hope you come back to comment on it; I’ll be interested to see your opinion of it.

Added a skin to my Magic Keyboard as i was going crazy looking at the finger prints. Got it from sopiguard.com and came very quickly.
