RESOLVED… SEE THIRD POST

Had a search and can't find anything related to this...

I have a M4 iPad Pro 11" with a Magic Keyboard (current model).

Both bought November 2024.

Everything has been fine no issues, until recently the keyboard began disconnecting, typically removing the iPad and reseating it fixed the issue then all of a sudden yesterday it began disconnecting and reconnecting randomly...

I reseated the iPad... no nice this time.

Cleaned the contacts with iso- propyl alcohol and they look fine.

A hard reset of the iPad resulted the keyboard coming back to life briefly and then it seemed to die completely...

In case it's a software thing, I updated to 26.2. I erased and set up my iPad as a totally new device to see if that made a difference... it did not.

Restored the iPad back to how I had it and still nothing from the keyboard...

at a bit of a loose as what to do next... On Monday I'll bring it back to the store and see what kinda response I get when I present them with a 14 month old accessory that has stopped working... actually I'm hoping they can test the keyboard on one of their 11" iPad Pros and confirm that it is the keyboard that's the problem... and by contrast if the keyboard is working fine then maybe there is something wrong with the iPad... which will be really annoying as it also is out of warranty...

anyone had anything like this?

well brought it back to the store i bought it from, not an apple store, but apple authorised store… they took the magic keyboard in for a technician to look at it… however they didn’t have another magic keyboard on display that i could test my ipad in… or vice versa they didn’t have a display ipad that i could test my keyboard in… anyway they have it, if it’s fried then I’ll get a new one under this countries consumer guarantees act, so that is something… if it works fine then it’s my ipad… so I’ll need to drop that in for, inspection if that’s the case… slowly for the moment… fingers crossed it’s the keyboard and I get a new one…

so i’m just updating this thread in case anyone else comes across this issue and comes upon this thread…

despite the keyboard being 14 months old, the consumer guarantees act in NZ covers me for failures like this, which is why no one buys Apple care in this country… it was determined that the magic keyboard had failed and that it wasn’t tampered with in anyway and Apple are swapping it out for a new keyboard which I’ll hopefully get towards the end of the week…

just so people know… for the first 12months I had zero issues, then the material that covers the underside of the keyboard delaminated and went all saggy… this is possibly a coincidence as can’t see how the two are connected…

then I began to notice one day that the keyboard kept disconnecting, initially reseating it sorted the issue but then it happened and I couldn’t get it to reconnect once back in place…

I tried hard power off on the iPad and it would come back for a short time and then discontent… did this a couple of times and then it didn’t come back on, so I reset the ipad back to factory and that didn’t help, reinstalled my back up and nothing…

at this point I went back to the store, that was last week… hoping to have all this sorted by the weekend…

I’m glad to read you got a resolution. Sad for me in the US, there are no such country-covered laws. Mine still works, using it to type this, but the panels continue to decompose and has done so for about a year now So I am in the difficult position of stomaching paying for a new one, or going for one of the far less money cheap-looking knockoffs. Or just continuing to use this one as the metal panels appear more and more each day.

I see you found this thread… 🙂

yeah I do feel like I got lucky on this one…

I was in a similar position to you and the thought of buying a new one was really not sitting well with me… but having to use the iPad without any keyboard for 10 days told me I couldn’t make do without it… I guess everyone’s use case is different but with the keyboard I really do use the ipad like a mini laptop…

the delaminated backing didn’t bother me all that much… but it dying stone cold like that did…

So my 13” M4 Magic KB failed. Symptoms - only worked when open about 45 degrees, fully open - nothing at all. A search showed this was a defective hinge - some reports that this was an issue with early models and I got mine at release (May 2024).

Took it into Apple and to their credit, they replaced of free of charge as I had bought it from them and it was under 2 years old (not sure if this was a standard perk). I just hope this fault has been resolved as I don’t want to have to change keyboards every 20 months.
