Hey gang - looked around but haven't seen anything on the availability of the Magic KB. Apple.com has it listed as "unavailable". Anyone know when these will be orderable?

yes its may and you cant preorder yet either. Also they have an updated smart keyboard for the new 2020 IPP so dont make the accident of ordering that one :)

it works with the 2018 iPad Pro, it says it all over Apple’s website.

understand, but they will be selling 2 different keyboard, the new magic one (not avail yet) and an updated Smart Keyboard Folio. just wanted to make sure someone doesnt buy that one since it doesnt have the track pad (if they wanted a trackpad)

I'm sorry Apple but paying $449CAD ($516 with tax) for a keyboard is simple insane!
I really hope people won't buy this and send Apple a message as otherwise they will keep doing this.
I mean, where does this go? If keyboard can cost this much and we allow it then whats gonna be next?

No way I'm buying this and frankly I'm disappointed that Apple even released it.
$449CAD keyboard
$1299CAD monitor stand
$500CAD wheels

WTF Apple?

I have a first gen iPad Pro 11". Glad they made the new keyboard compatible.

$299 is ridiculously expensive for an iPad keyboard.

Will probably still buy it anyway.
$349 ain't much better! As a separate purchase made sometime after getting my 3rd gen iPP, you can kind of trick yourself that it isn't so bad, but that price tag is a hard sell.

It seems that Apple has changed using the same pricing strategy as the airline industry over the last decade. Much in the same way that an airline sells a bunch of economy seats at fares where their margins are quite slim and a handful of first/business class seats at 5x-10x the price, Apple has divided it’s lineup into lower margin “base” models and “Pro” models with the latest features sold at a much higher markup. In both cases, the high end customers are where the company is making a larger share of its money. Makes sense for Apple’s bottom line (at least as long as they don’t push people too far). But it erodes goodwill toward the brand and it remains to be seen how sustainable this strategy will be over the long term.

Apple product have always come with a markup. But the difference is, 10 years ago there was one tier for everyone (with the exception of the Mac lineup). If you bought the latest iPad, you got the best iPad. You only paid more money for more storage or cellular service. Now, to get the latest iPad features, you have to pay more than double the price of the entry level model (which itself is basically a 2013 iPad Air with a newer processor and slightly bigger screen). Apple has decided to wring more money out of those who want the latest and greatest. This group also happens to be it’s most loyal group of customers. But, it has consistently left a bad taste in my mouth since Apple went that direction in 2017-2018.

Hyped asf , gonna get this and the new magic keyboard. This thing is going to be a beast in 4k editing and with 8 cores damn that's future proof. People hoping for mini-led this year , forget about it . Corona .

What if they launch an iPad Pro with miniLED after the coronavirus goes away?

Yeah, this is precisely why I stopped buying Apple. My last big purchase was in 2014, MBP in 2017 and then nothing since then. Tried iPhone 11 Pro and other products but couldn't justify the value.
I was ok with a markup but it got out of hands and now the value is no longer there. I mean really, who in their right mind will pay so much money for a keyboard, stand, wheels etc.? This is not innovation but pure greed.
Its a shame because it didn't use to be like this.
I still remember my 2008 Mac Pro with 30" ACD. Probably the best value computer there ever was.

Anyway, I hope this trend will not continue as otherwise I will be forced to do something about it.

Can you fold this back or do you have to disconnect it and leave it behind when you want to view in portrait or landscape holding with two hands? And will the keyboard pop up on the iPad if it does fold back.

The saving grace of course, is that this new keyboard will probably work with the next iPPs.

Not convinced myself on this - the previous accessories could be used on gen 1 and 2 while gen 3 needed new stuff. There’s no indication that that will be different when a more substantial updated iPad arrives.

Why not? This fits the previous model. Unless there's a redesign moving the smart connector again, I can't see why it wouldn't still be useable.

watched the iPad Pro video that shows it with the new Magic Keyboard with trackpad.
am looking forward to seeing it in stores (when they eventually re-open...)

i wonder what kind of acute angle is possible to view the screen at when attached to this new keyboard.
the hinge on this new keyboard seems like it should be really sturdy (apple has always done hinges very well)
there is a shot in the new video (How to Correctly Use a Computer) of a person even lying down with the new iPad attached to the new Magic Keyboard (but the iPad itself is not at an acute angle).
