Hello Everyone,

Like many of you I have purchased the new Magic Keyboard to replace my old wireless apple keyboard. But I've been experiencing a weird issue with my new keyboard since removing it from its packaging. The function keys that control things like brightness and volume don't work unless the keyboard is connected via the lightning cable. I have tried many things to solve this issue, including un-pairing and repairing the keyboard, trying different lightning cables, deleting the com.apple.bluetooth.plist file and resetting pRAM and SMC. I even tried installing OS X 10.11.1 beta and still no function keys worked wirelessly. For those wondering I'm not experiencing any issues with any other bluetooth devices such as the Magic Trackpad. I tried calling Apple about this and they didn't seem to have any idea about what was going on. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? My iMac has bluetooth 4.0 and is running OS X 10.11 (not the beta)

Thanks in advance.

Maybe check your keyboard settings in preferences. May be possible that the use all F1, F2, etc keys option is checked when you unplug the keyboard from your mac.

Just an idea...

I really really hope you're right.

I just got my Magic Keyboard and touchpad II from UPS and it was finished charging. When I unplugged the lightning cable after it was done charging, my magic keys (volume, etc) still worked. With that said, Something isn't right with your keyboard and it could be as simple as it didn't paired right or a setting somehow got changed. If it still giving you issues, I would got to your nearest Apple store if you can.

I'm not the OP and I actually don't have a keyboard. I just hope things work like they should. :D
