I have a feeling it’ll work, but Apple will encourage users to buy a slightly modified version for the 5th gen iPad Pro, which will become the new standard one they sell, since it’ll be backwards compatible as well.

Today is my last day to return my MKB. Wanted to get your opinion. I got my MKB at a discount for $250. If the keyboard will work like you guys are guessing but might have some minor fit issues, I am ok with that and prefer to save $100.
Would you guys return and fork out the extra $100 for 100% compatibility? This whole package is already so damn expensive.

I have no plans to transport it frequently. I’m going to gamble and keep it and save $100.
The only reason I would return is if it makes the whole combo too top heavy and easier to tip back. I talked to an Apple store rep and he said the new keyboard is 0.2 lb. Anyone know the weight of the current MKB? If this was an issue with the new IPP then Apple would have made the new one heavier to accommodate.
I assume that’s .2 lbs heavier. Since the whole thing is a lot heavier. Apple never listed the actual weight of the keyboard but I believe the combo keyboard + iPad is about 3 lbs. So .2lbs more than that.

It looks like there is now a huge thread already on MR about this in the news section.
The weight of the current keyboard is almost the same as the iPad Pro. That’s a lot more than 3.2 ounces. I don’t think the new one could be that weight without tipping the whole combo over backwards.
I spoke with an Apple specliast and he said the only difference will be the color. For all I know he had not a clue what he was talking about, but see for your self.

None of them have the exact information. I called the Apple Store and spoke to someone who said the only 5th gen compatible devices showing on her screen were the new, available for order on the 30th, MKB, and the currently for sale Smart Folio keyboard and the folio. She said as far as she could tell no previous MKB would be compatible.
My wife will be getting my 2018 3rd gen iPP and the MKB, so went ahead and ordered the Smart Folio keyboard. If my MKB does wind up working then I’ll have two choices, if it doesn’t my wife will have it. I don’t understand how the current Smart Folio keyboard that I just ordered can be compatible unless it also has been revised as to magnet and camera placement but I will see, it should be delivered this week.
When my order comes in I’ll compare the camera cutouts on both it and my MKB, if there’s no visible difference I may consider returning it. I don’t think a change in magnet placements to be that critical but if the camera housing has been significantly changed that would be the big issue. I have been using the Smart Folio Keyboard for my iPP but it’s a 3rd gen one with the smaller camera opening so my wife gets that. If the the MKB truly doesn’t work with the 5th gen then she’ll also get that one and I’ll have the new Smart Keyboard Folio. I don’t use the trackpad enough to justify ordering a new MKB. I found the backlit keys to be more useful.

Was it determined that the ONLY difference between this newest (still?) 5th-gen magic keyb & the prior gen;
Is that the latter, isn't designed to cover the -slightly thicker- 2021 & newer iPad Pro's?
I have a 2nd-gen 2018 12.9" iPad Pro, and I was wondering if should bother with the newest magic keyb?
I can buy one from a family member, & they'll sell it to me for slightly below the 2nd-hand market value price.
It's almost brand new - barely used. But, maybe I should be buying the prior model 2nd-hand instead?
