Are they really losing sales? Tim Cook makes it sound like they're selling a lot of MBPs and there's nothing to worry about. I don't think shareholders care about butterfly keyboards, they care about the return on their investment and so far apple is till making money hand over fist.

I'd be surprised to apple abandon the butterfly keyboard, if not for the simple reason of pride, its their baby and all they need to do is tweak the design, which we'll no doubt see in generation 4. By dropping the butterfly keyboard outright they'll admit its a failed design and that could open the door to negative PR, especially with legion of 2016/2017/2018 owners now stuck with a failed keyboard design. Instead they'll just tweak it, and like the 3rd generation, they'll not really be too communicative of the changes.

I think your right as all Apple cares about is image & sales. Apple's solution is very clear buy the next model, as my late father would say "fools and their money"...

I don't think it's difficult to imagine some being put off by reports/ seeing the repair programme or by personal experience vowing not to buy another butterfly MacBook

Then again, it’s not the first and last repair program they had. It’s not good PR, for sure, and I’m sure that they are working hard on fixing all the issues in the next design, but it’s far from the end of the world. It doesn’t seem like the Mac revenue was impacted in any substantial way by the keyboard problems. And anyway, Samsung had to recall an entire series of phones because they were literally catching fire in people’s pockets and they are still doing very good.

Funny that something like this is necessary. Apple used to make some great keyboards, but the new butterfly keyboard is terrible. I've never used the Magic Keyboard, so I don't know how it feels. Is it similar to the butterfly in feel? I used to use an Apple bluetooth keyboard over my white MB because I didn't like the feel of the MB keyboard.

I put the space grey keyboard on top so I get a numeric keypad and a casing match!

Thanks for the tip about Karabiner, that was the thing holding me back.
