so it is a compatible with cases.. I’m so happy, this is now a must buy.. My only fear was it being naked in tablet mode.. I don’t have to worry about that anymore..

Not cases but a particular case. Notice it has a Smart Connector on the back of that case. I think that case also has magnets integrated into it.

So tack on another $40 to that $350 keyboard... 😣

Not to mention the weight! At this rate I might as well order a set of those Mac Pro wheels and roll my iPad around like a carry-on suitcase.

I know right? Maybe might second guess this and buy a surface pro or macbook

I’d like to see a new version of the CoverBuddy that covers the currently open edge as that doesn’t need to be left open with the new Magic Keyboard.

I think it's quite odd of you to be considering a completely different platform just because an accessory isn't perfect / is a bit expensive.

The platform ought to be your number one consideration.

If you are considering a MacBook, there ought not be any need for you to consider the rest anyway. Because you're accepting that typing is so important that you're willing to give up a touch screen. No need for a touch screen? Get the far superior typing and productivity experience that a MacBook affords.

The Surface Pro.... again, why? You are dealing with a completely different ecosystem there. You lose all of the fantastic iPad apps that take advantage of the touch screen / Apple Pencil. You get Drawboard PDF and OneNote... and that's about it. The rest of the Microsoft app store is pretty rubbish, and you're left with a small screen, desktop-first interface to use a bunch of programs that are nowhere near optimised for touch.

Not odd. It's called being and individual and having different ideas and choices

There’s no need to be so defensive, I’m just questioning those ‘individual different ideas and choices’ as to their underlying logic.

I like the colour blue, you might like the colour red. That’s fine, that’s an individual choice.

Now, if someone was offering you a thousand dollars or a marshmallow, and you chose the marshmallow, your logic would certainly be questionable.

Get a small portable kbd and Apple trackpad. Then you can keep the ipad in any case you want. Works perfectly, is lighter, much less expensive.

You’re not going to be able to put the iPad Pro in a case, then put the cased iPad Pro into a Magic Keyboard case. Don’t even think that has a slim chance of working, because it won’t. The magnets might be strong enough to hold onto the iPad, but the smart connector pins have such a tiny amount of movement, any case added to the iPad will degrade the connection and cause issues with both the keyboard and charging ability of the USB-C port.

As someone else said, you can add a skin to the iPad, for some scratch protection. I’ve done that with my 2018 12.9” and it works perfectly with my current Keyboard Folio, assuming it will also work with the new Magic Keyboard case.

To a point, you do have to recognize that the iPad Pro is an expensive device that is going to be susceptible to damage if you drop it, even if it is in a case. If you’re using it in tablet form while watching videos in bed, you should be ok, as long as you don’t let it slip off the bed onto the hard floor. I use it this way and simply set it on a shelf of my nightstand when I’m done using it.
Perhaps someone will come out with a case that snaps over the smart case? Incase made ones for the old covers.

I already have this https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07KB1MSSC which I use with a Bridge keyboard and its a perfect fit and I'm pretty happy with it. Pretty certain it will fit the Magic Keyboard, so plan to use this as a case to protect everything.

Hey guys....I was looking if anyone had a solution for using the ipad with the new magic keyboard without a case, but so far there isn’t any cases that work with the keyboard. However, while looking online I found this compressed protection sticker that covers the back and the sides so I thought maybe I should tell u about it. I asked the seller and he said it wouldn’t block the magnet, which makes it the best solution so far. I found it on taobao, because I live in China, but I’m positive u can find it on other websites wherever u r.
