Magic Keyboard Touch ID only works when Laptop is open

Setup includes MacbookAir M2, LG 34" Ultravide, Magic Trackpad and MAgicKeyboard with TouchID and Number Pad.

After initial setup, it worked fine, but it has since stopped allowing me to use TouchID on the wireless Magic Keyboard to unlock the computer/sign in.

It will only work when the laptop is open. When it is closed/clamshelled - the screen with dim for a moment when I press Touch ID but does not log in. IF the laptop is open however it will work. Once unlocked I can close the MBA and Touch ID will work for passwords/payment, etc....

Can you check with wired connection to Magic keyboard?

I use my MacBook Pro M1 14(Lid closed) connected to ASD and wired magic keyboard, and touch-id works fine.

I can use TouchID on my Apple keyboard when my MBP is closed (and attached to my external displays).

Time to reboot...

I have my Magic Keyboard mounted to the bottom of my desk, to have access to a Touch ID without having to use the actual keyboard. It works just fine for me when my M1 Max MBP is locked and clamshelled.

Mine is hardwired though, not over bluetooth.
