I've had my Magic Mouse since last thursday (29th Oct) and i've noticed the 2 finger swipe gesture no longer actually functions. I'm trying it in Safari (with history available to swipe through) and its definately enabled in the system preferences.

Instead of doing the swipe gesture it now just scrolls left and right. Its also not a case of positioning my fingers wrong as it used to work around 2 days ago and now it definitely no longer works.

I'm going to re-pair it a few times and replace the batteries but if it doesnt magically come back I will be replacing it.

Just curious if anyone else who has had their magic mouse for this long has lost this gesture too?

My magic mouse when I first got it wouldn't even recognize the two finger gestures even when enabled. Two computer restarts later they work now. But, if the cursor isn't in the middle of the safari window it will just scroll around.

That might actually be it you know... i rebooted my iMac yesterday and it would seem its been doing it since then... i'm going to try rebooting again and see if it helps at all

2 finger swipe fixed

got my new imac 21" 2 days ago. Updated safari and osx and lost 2 finger swipe. Repaired disk permissions and rebooted, works fine again. I had no errors when I repaired disk permissions BTW.

Here is how you fix it:

1) Shut down your imac

2) Disconnect the power cord from the back of your imac

3) Wait for 15-20 seconds, then reconnect the power, Press (Option + Command + P + R). Turn the imac back on while holding (Option + Command + P + R).

Let me know how you go.;)

PRAM reset is the masturbation of Mac wannabees. This will NOT help you effectively. Learn your ****. Corrupted preferences are often the problem. Try this first:

"Here's the fix: (Courtesy of the Apple Support Rep I just got off the phone with).. I'ts simple and I'm embarrassed I even called and didn't think of it myself.

Delete the following preference file:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist

Reboot.. and Viola! Swipe is working again.

NOTE: This will reset the Keyboard and mouse preferences."

This is a quote from the Apple forums. Go there FIRST for software or hardware problems; macrumors has too many PRAM trolls to get any good solutions to your problems.

@manskybook

Thanks for this solution.
Lost two finger swipe after one month of use.
Deleted the file, rebooted and everything is back.

Thanks again.

cheers for the tip!!!:D:D

I lost 2-finger swipe on the mouse and 3-finger swipe on the trackpad. Found this solution: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2245976&tstart=0

I deleted ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.mouse.plist and rebooted (I had no com.apple.driver.AppleHIDMouse.plist to delete)

After reboot, 3-finger swipe on the trackpad was working. After going into system preferences->mouse and re-enabling 2-finger swipe, the swipe worked on the mouse.

To Fix; Alt + Command + Power Button. Once the screen goes black, enter any key (I use command key). This only takes a second and your swipe will work like new.
