I got the Magic Mouse 2 after dealing with constant dropped connections, choppy performance, and an inability to connect at all sometimes

For me MMouse is rock solid on Mac -- but ergonomics yuck! For minimum work this apple mouse is just ok - but so is their super touchpad... For me, this mouse is just useless...

My current set up is MX Anywhere 2 over BT when I do not require precision and connect it via dongle when precision and lagging is not an option (CAD, specialised modelling software etc.)

I am dying to wait till some smart company will fill in Logitech place for me. After MX Master 2S fiasco I just do not trust them anymore.

Question for Logitech users. How is the Logitech Options software in macOS?

It is completely broken in Sierra 10.12.6 for me. I can get the mouse to work via the dongle but the software doesn't recognise the mouse so I am unable to gauge the battery life in any way. Like having a car with no fuel gauge.

Pointless..

@Rob_2811 : Actually Logitech options are the only thing that is working right for me :). Logi software have zero to nothing capabilities but they work (maybe that is why). Battery gauge is "ok" - indicated by three small lines inside mini-battery icon when you have Logitech software running of course. Forget about being informed that your battery is going flat though - my mouse usually just dies in the middle of working day...

Bottom line is that I do not need this Logitech software at all.

I have zero issues with Logitech Options (6.7) in 10.12.6. Works fine and warns me when my battery is low. I use the Logitech dongle as well as I don't really care for Bluetooth, I have it plugged in my keyboard.

Have both and MX is much better mouse for my desktop work (illustrator and word mostly). However bluetooth is strange and inhibit by JBL bluetooth headset and is very unstable. However the dongle works fine (although difficult to set up).
While traveling and for small things is magic mouse perfect,

Is the scrolling smooth like the trackpad or magic mouse 2?

I had another Logitech Mouse and found the scrolling to be less than smooth. Looking @ the MX Master 2S tho.
I don't have any issues with mine when it comes to scrolling

The M720 marathon mouse is what I had before. There was a smooth scroll options n, but it definitely didn’t match the trackpad. The trackpads perfect with regard to smoothness when varying scroll speed...very natural.
Would you say the MX Master 2S scrolling is exactly like the trackpad on the newer MBP’s?

And thanks?

Were you originally using the Logitech software?

I installed it with the Marathon M720. The option for "smooth" didn't match the Trackpad. I think I saw someone refer to it as touch scrolling. That sounds like a good description. This is my first Mac (2017 13" base) and the Trackpad's unbelievably accurate, precise, and for the first time ever using an input device, I can tolerate (and actually enjoy) acceleration. It tracks, lol, my finger perfectly...slowing down on point, speeding up on point, etc. It also allows for scrolling as smoothly as on an iPhone or iPad. It's just super slick and I LOVES it.

Update!!!!

I seem to have had a system preference pane for Logitech's software still alive, so I used the Logitech uninstaller (why oh why can't all the uninstalls be in a central locale ala windows pro and fea‽‽‽) after removing the option from the system pref pane and it seems to have removed everything.

At the same time I installed this:
http://magicprefs.com/

I had been using bettertouchtool/snaptool, but it says sensitivity cannot be increased starting with Sierra. Well, magicprefs does indeed increase the sensitivity.

So one or both of those actions seems to have almost completely fixed my complaints about the MM2. I had to nearly double the sensitivity slider in magic prefs, but I'm no longer dragging the damn thing off the pad!

Woot!

Here is my 2 cent:

I have/had a lot of logitech mouses and right now still have 2 mx master, 1 performance mx, 1 mx anywhere, 2 marathon. I also have 2 magic mouse and 1 magic mouse 2. Yes, I have many machines, mac/windows/linux...

I have to say that logitech mx ones all feel well in hand and doesn't make my hand hurt after 10+ hr of work. Plus there is no alternative, so I have to keep buying them.

They do have a lot of issues. Here is my experience:

1. I had 2 performance mx, 1 mx anywhere, and 1 marathon broken on me. Each time the issue is different: broken left bottom, random lost connection to unifying dongle when turned on... The mx anywhere broken after only a few days. Keep in mind that I don't do any gaming or art work so the usage is pretty light when split between many mouses at work and home. I think the QC is really not very good. I used to throw away logi mouse when their soft texture starts to peel off (still working) and now I threw away shiny ones.

2. Bluetooth compatibility with Mac is horrible. You never know if it will wake up your machine or not every time while the magic mouse or track pad can do it every single time. The response time is also bad sometimes, even if I'm doing light text work. Generally there is no problem if I use USB. But then they don't make a usb-c dongle yet so using it with the new MacBooks on the road is messy.

The conclusion is, if you can tolerate magic mouse, it saves you a lot of trouble in the long run. One of my 1-gen magic mouses was from the first batch and it still works perfectly as in day one. If you hate holding a flat uncomfortable mouse, then use logi with unifying usb. Unless you are a mouse guru, don't try anything else wirelss. It doesn't worth buying into special usb dongles other than unifying.

For me, I like neither of them but I will end up keeping buying both brands.

Hi all

Im looking for a mouse to use for video editing on FCPX. I use 2 external displays with my MBP, so i cant use its trackpad or keyboard. They are not very successful for these jobs anyway. These 2 mouse has same price.

Magic Mouse 2
-Horizontal and ver. scrolling
-Very stable bluetooth connection
-Apple ecosystem? (What are the benefits?)
-Not very ergonomic (By user)

Logitech MX Master

-They say "Best wireless mouse in the world"
-Customizable buttons and wheels
-Scrolling in 2 directions in MAC (using wheels)
-Super ergonomics
-Unstable bluetooth connection (by user)

Which one should i buy?

Thanks. I did give up on th Magic Mouse. In addition to being flat and imprecise, I found the mouse too skinny, and even a little too “sticky” and not as smooth when scrolling. It needs to be wider, taller, with a centered sensor, and better precision...as of right now, it’s garbage.

I’m actually using a cheap old Logitech notebook mouse with a sweet insignia (Best Buy) usb-c to usb-a adapter. I think it was like 10 bucks and recognizes thumb drives the official Apple does not. Anyway, it doesn’t bother me as much as I thought and the mouse works soooo much better. I’ll defintely end up grabbing an my Master 2s and that logi k811? Keyboard with his:

Tried the Magic Grips. They turn the MM into a little brick, so I actually lost grip precision, and could no longer tuck the fingers under the mouse.

In this thread I compare the Magic Mouse to MX Master 2S and also the Magic Trackpad. Just to deflect the usual line of criticism: bluetooth worked 100% okay, so that was never a problem for me.

I'm now convinced that solutions are analysed by their own virtues, but not in context.

The Magic Trackpad is a decent piece of hardware, but it makes no sense to have a Macbook + a MT. Also, in the Macbook, the trackpad is used next to the keyboard, and your hands rest in the leftover space; that's not the case with the MT, and your hands will usually be left hovering in the air waiting for your next interaction.

The MX Master (2S) is comfortable by itself, but if you put it next to a keyboard with a low profile, the full handshake position the mouse requires makes no sense, because you have to keep shifting between different heights.

The Magic Mouse is a great product and the touch interactions, the bluetooth connection and the battery have yet to be replicated. Logitech's "Darkfield technology", which supposedly works on glass, is their real breakthrough here. I don't need a mat for the MM all the time, but I hate realizing that I should've brought it with me.

How is the Bluetooth with the 2016 MBP? I've heard some people the Bluetooth for the mx master had issues with older macs

i have an early 2011 macbook pro with failing usb ports. i use a wireless mouse, so having big trouble with the receiver. researched bluetooth mice. decided on the logitech m585. failed to work with the laptop (wasn't even recognized). called logitech, they sent me a free replacement. eventually, my research discovered that my laptop did not support what is called "Bluetooth Low Energy". have yet to find a bluetooth mouse that will work with my bluetooth except the magic mouse.
