Hey there,

I’ve recently started having issues where my Magic Mouse suddenly disconnects from my system. It’s the model that uses two AA batteries.

If I hold the mouse button down for a few seconds, it often reconnects—but not always.

New batteries...

Could this be a sign that it’s time to replace it?

Running Mac Mini M2 Pro on Ventura 13.7.8

Thanks

Thanks for the reply Bigwaff.

I haven’t moved anything around. It will work flawlessly for days - then suddenly it becomes intermittent…

I’ll try and move things around a bit and see if anything changes.

Currently the Mac Mini is sitting under the far left side of a 2 monitor setup…

Check the battery connections in the mouse. Over the years they'll attract corrosion from/to the ends of the batteries. Especially so in humid climates. Closely inspect/clean the contact spring tabs.

Just checked the connections and everything looks fine.

This morning the mouse wouldn’t connect at all.

I plugged in a wired mouse, used it to “Forget” the Magic Mouse, then paired it again. I’ve done this before with mixed results, but so far it’s been working.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone... we'll see what happens today...

Update:

I think the problem is now solved.

I found a recommendation to place a small piece of paper between the batteries and the back cover. Apparently, this is a known issue—the batteries can loosen over time from their intended position, drop slightly, and lose contact.

I did notice that when taking the back cover off, the batteries seemed a bit loose and movable, which supports that explanation.

I tried this this morning and it’s been working well so far.
