I have a 27 inch IMAC and having a problem with the Magic Mouse. Sometimes it has a mind of its own and starts scrolling without any finger motion from me. The navigation feature (forward and back) doesn't work worth a darn. I usually have to do the two finger swipe left and right several times and sometimes up to five for any response on the screen. Anybody have similar issues or any ideas.

Yep, exactly the same problems here on a MacBook. It's getting very annoying!

I find the MM is almost unusable in Excel. The left/right swipe is activated too easily and the spreadsheet too often scrolls sideways. I tried turning off the "Two Fingers" under System_Preferences/Mouse but it appears that Excel does not recognize that fact that the option has been turned off. Otherwise the MM works great for me.

Watch out, you aren't allowed to bump things. I got in trouble for it.

As for this post, I have not experienced any of these particular problems, but every once and awhile the mouse will start to "lag". I have heard this is a result of a hard-drive spin up.

I'm on my third MM. The track ball broke again. No matter which way I move it, the cursor scrolls up.

I'm switching to Logitech.

My left/right swipe is dead in Excel. Go figure....

I got out from under my rock, and bought a Magic Mouse.

Not too good so far. When I started it up, my Macbook recognized it and connected. But in the Bluetooth panel of Preferences -- Mouse, it didn't have the name for the mouse or battery power. The mouse moves the cursor, right clicks and left clicks, but it doesn't scroll or swipe.

I tried going back into setting up Bluetooth, and now it doesn't recognize the mouse at all.

I tried starting over, turning everything off, but the same results.

Any advice.

Well, not all good. Mostly good.

The two black slide bars are not flat. The mouse sits on two opposite corners. It rocks a bit on flat surfaces. Kind of annoying.

I would defiantly complain to Apple about that, I expect nothing but perfection out of that mouse for what I'm paying for it.

What drivers? Should do it automatically. It showed up as Magic Mouse on my MBP as soon as I turned the Bluetooth on.

It should show up in the automatic updates, but that sounds like the problem. The mouse can be used without any multitouch or gestures without the drivers. if you want to do all that, that's what the drivers are for. So it sounds to me like it's a drivers problem. I will update with a link to the drivers if I can find them.

My experience

The Magic Mouse does go nuts when large spreadsheets are onscreen. Same issue in Excel, Numbers and Google Spreadsheets. But otherwise it is generally good, aside from the occasional unwanted right click, and occasional difficulty selecting words without selecting the whole line. At least I don't have a trackball to clean every couple of weeks like I had with the old Mighty Mouse.

After another replacement that did exactly the same, I put my fist through it in a fit of anger. It's got a nice big crack down it now, but it still works fine :) I think I need anger management classes :) I will never buy another Apple mouse, they are just too small for my meat hooks. Anyone tried the Magic Trackpad in comparison? Not sure I'd get on with it and there is no Apple store for miles where I live so getting hands on any time soon is a no go.

Magic Mouse Newer update

I have the same and additional problems with MM. I have downloaded the "latest" upgrade (Version: 1.0. Post Date: October 27, 2009. Download ID:DL951.File Size: 36.22MB), as recommended by upaymeifixit, but when I open it it tells me that there is a newer upgrade and it refuses to instal. Can someone tell me how to find the newest upgrade? I have installed the latest upgrades from Mac but it wasn't among them. I stopped using MM shortly I got my new Mac because it kept freezing, and am now using Logitech, but I hate to waste my money, so I'd like to give it another try.
Thanks for help.

Strange I've never had any issues with mine. My friend's goes through batteries like crazy. I bought mine in March and just changed the batteries for the first time last week.

I guess you could try driver updates to see if that works. I installed MagicPrefs also which added more multi touch functions to the mouse for dashboard / expose, etc. That app is really quite nice.

I'm still having the same Excel issues that I posted previously in this thread. Other than that my Magic Mouse has been working flawlessly. That being said the battery life could be better.

Does anyone power off their MM when not in use?
