I have both and the pad is great, but for precision work the mouse is better. You can buy a previous gen pad (the one with changeable batteries) for pennies. Well… not quite pennies, but very cheaply.

I got my iMac with the blue Magic Mouse, but I decided to buy a Trackpad a few months in due to the utterly stupid positioning of the charging port. Am not going back, not even if they change the port for the Mouse 3

I’d suggest neither. I have a Magic Mouse but I replaced it with a more ergonomic mouse from a third party. If you use a computer a lot, especially for work, I think either of these options will be hard on your hands and wrists

I have the trackpad and a g502x. I use a split keyboard, so the trackpad sits between the two halves of my keyboard.

This setup is massively comfortable, I switch between mouse and trackpad depending on what I want to do. Some actions are just way more comfortable on the trackpad, but the mouse is faster for other options. I don't really think about it, but I do actually end up missing the trackpad OR mouse when I happen to take one out for some reason or another lol.

Because my setup is connected to a KVM with 3 different computers, I keep the magic trackpad plugged in via USB. Unfortunately after a couple years, this caused the battery on my magic trackpad to become a spicy pillow. I was hesitant to replace it, but ended up missing it so much I forked up the money lol.

Surprised by how heavy it is.

I have hardly used my M4 iMac. I think this is going to change that.

Trying it out, now.

I had to move the trackpad nearer to my keyboard, and it feels a bit better.

I've got to give it some time, and I'll let you know what I think.
I position it directly adjacent to the keyboard with number pad like it's one single extra long device. I use the trackpad only with my left hand and number keys only with my right hand so it works out well

Nice.

My first Mac was a 2008 iMac, and had the keyboard with numeric keypad.

I would have got that keyboard, but I bought my iMac from an Apple Store, so came as stock.

Even though it was wired, I liked it because it had USB ports on both ends of the keyboard. Very handy.

So are you left handed?

That didn't take long ;)
At first, I wasn’t sure.

Then I learned new gestures, for which I had previously used hot corners to execute.

Now, it’s all just so fluid, and consistent between all of my Macs.

10/10 👍🏼.

I've always been a mouse user, but picked up a secondhand Magic Trackpad 2 yesterday. Liking it so far. I'm using the click option rather than tap to click. I think for design work I'd switch to the mouse as I can work quicker that way but for general browsing it's good.

I love and use both. Started the habit during my iMac years, and have kept it that way as a dedicated MacBook user now. If on a desktop and faced with the choice of picking only one, I would go with the Trackpad. Hoping that the rumoured Magic Mouse 3 can give the Trackpad a run for its money, or at least match it in feature set. I tend to favour the mouse for Logic Pro and for times when I am performing a lot of drag and drop functions. I don’t think I can ever do without a mouse at my disposal, and the scrolling on the Magic Mouse is just too good IMO.

They both are good, and it’s nice to have options.
