This seems similar to what I was experiencing, but I'm not 100% sure. Try disabling handoff to see if that helps. If it helps, then it's the issue I've reported to Apple numerous times (that they recently emailed me saying they were unable to duplicate it).

Let me know if the exchange fixes it. I'm planning on picking one up tomorrow myself, and hope I won't have the issue. :)

I exchanged it and have been working with the new replacement for almost a day now. Thus far it is working just fine, with no lag or any erratic behaviour. If issues arise, I will report back.

Assuming it works well, does this mean some batches came out lemons and that this may be a hardware issue?

Maybe? I picked mine up today. Seems good so far! I'll report back if it's messed up.

I recently bought a new iMac and chose to go with a Magic Trackpad 2. Previously, I had been using the original Magic Trackpad for a number of years, and figured that the added surface area and Force Touch might be nice features.

There's a bit of a problem, however: occasionally - sometimes multiple times per minute - the trackpad acts like it either isn't connected or as if it isn't picking up my finger. It's always brief, but very noticeable. Sometimes the cursor doesn't move for about a second; other times it will respond in less than a second, but the acceleration of an action like scrolling will feel "off" (because I've already been moving my fingers, but the screen just starts responding a split second after my motion, so the acceleration is a bit behind what it should be).

I was prepared to go through a bunch of trouble-shooting, including swapping out for my old Magic Trackpad and testing with that... however, I found that at least one other person had this issue. The solution that worked for him was to exchange the trackpad for a new one. It's a bit of a hassle that I'd rather not go through, if I can help it.

So I put it out to the community: has anyone else experienced this issue? Was there an easy solution, like some way to reset the trackpad? I've tried shutting it off and turning it back on, but that doesn't seem to do it.

I am curious if you are still having this issue. I just got a MT2 on 10.11.2 and have started noticing it.

I am, unfortunately. I'd say that it was worse with my first Magic Trackpad 2, but I'm not truly sure if it was a hardware issue. Once it started happening with my replacement (noted within an hour of using it), I plugged it in for a solid week and just used it wired... and afterward, the issue still occurred, but perhaps not quite as often or as badly. So I'm not sure if the first time around it was pure hardware, or if the device just needed to have its battery topped off. I'd say it's bearable like this, but of course, it shouldn't be like this at all.

I'll probably attempt one more replacement in the coming weeks, given that some people are having perfect functionality with their replacements... if you're having issues at all, I'd again suggest you to give Apple feedback on this issue. They don't have a feedback section for the Magic Trackpad, so I'd suggest leaving it on the Magic Mouse feedback and just noting that it's for the trackpad. It's bizarre that they'd have a designated feedback area for the mouse, but not the trackpad...

Hmm, I wonder if I should exchange mine and just use it until an OS X update fixes it or return it. I would think that, by now, any bad units would be moved and that any remaining issues are software related.

I went by the same Apple Store and swapped mine out on Saturday. I used the track pad Saturday night and Sunday plugged in with no issue. I've used it all day today with no issue (I'll post if I have problems later).

I don't get it. I went to the *same* Apple Store. The track pad was a gift bought about 2 weeks prior to Christmas. I exchanged it on December 27th so I suppose it could be a new batch, but I still think it's a wacky Bluetooth software issue.

Still no major issue like the with the first trackpad. Oddly, the only gesture I occasionally have trouble with is scrolling down with two fingers.

That's the gesture that usually gives me trouble, too.

This is utterly random, but after using mine for two weeks I've noticed a weird trend. I typically have no issues with deny, except late at night. I know that sounds stupid, but it works fine all morning, afternoon and eventing but once it gets late I start having the issue. I just had the issue three times after using it all day with no problem and it's been that way on and off since opening it.

Weird indeed. Do you turn the trackpad off during the night and then turn it on again in the morning?

I do not. I leave it on all the time because I assume it goes into a low power state when not in use.

I've noticed that trend pretty consistently but will be curious if 10.11.3 changes anything.

This thread is old but I wanted to note that in 10.11.3 and 10.11.4 I have not encountered this issue.

I haven't encountered it, either, but I'm wondering if the positioning of the trackpad relative to the computer may have something to do with it. I used to have my keyboard and trackpad on a little slide-out tray; my desk is made of glass and metal. I recently changed keyboards and had to shift the trackpad elsewhere. The trackpad was basically moved farther from the computer, and there may have been even more metal and glass around it as a result. The delays seemed to become more frequent and far worse. I have sense moved the trackpad to the top of the desk, where there is nothing between it and the computer, and the delays seem to have gone away.

I used to use the original Magic Trackpad in the same place on that slide-out tray originally, and it never had an issue... so I had assumed that the Magic Trackpad 2 would also not have an issue there.

I don't think that positioning is purely the answer, since it sounds like there are plenty of people who exchanged their trackpads and were then operating issue-free. I assume that when people made the swap they placed their new trackpads into the same position on their desk as where the previous one was.

Using iMac 5k 27" late 2015, had the problem - and yah is very frustrating when it loses connection, almost returned it but now it seems to be working okay - this is what I did.
I unpaired the track pad-- using the normal Bluetooth paired it (rather than the wire plug-in). Been two days now and no problem. 10.11.4

Odd, I had first paired by connecting the MT with the lightning cable. I unpaired it completely then went through the bluetooth pairing process. NOT connecting it with a cable. Seems to have fixed the "latency" issue

That's great that it works . Now when the battery runs down, I have to plug it in, hope I don't run into the original problem , but that won't be for a month.

For the record, this is still an issue with me. Tried everything in this thread but nothing worked. Will probably just take the trackpad back and call it a day.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread. But I'm encountering this issue right now and I've found something very interesting.

If I plug my Magic Trackpad 2 into my USB Charger, that is connected to my wall plug and NOT my Mac, it will have the same flawless connection as wired connection (directly to my Mac). In other words, if my Magic Trackpad 2 is charging, I dont have intermittent lag problem on wireless mode.

This kind of tells me that either:
1. The Trackpad 2 has "too aggressive energy saving mode" that makes the trackpad go to sleep fast.
2. The Trackpad 2 lowers the bluetooth signal to save battery "aggressively" when used wirelessly (and not charging).

If anyone with this problem can charge Magic Trackpad 2 using a wall plug (don't connect to your computer) or external battery and see if this problem persists, please let us know what happens. Make sure your Magic Trackpad 2 is connected via bluetooth.

I'm having the same issue. what mac are you using ? I'm using a 2016 macbook pro with touchbar

Interesting... I returned mine because I couldn't handle it any longer. I was using 2012 Retina Macbook Pro 15 inch. But I tested it with 13 inch Macbook air 2013 as well and had the same problem.

Have you tried my method? See if yours works fine when you connect a lightening connector to any power source OTHER THAN your Macbook Pro.

I bought mine from amazon as "like new" used item.

yeah i tried connecting it with my desktop pc but then it starts to connect to my pc instead of my mac...

Lol no i mean something not computer as a power source like wall charger, external bettery and stuff like that.

Does it work without a problem when it is wired to yoh mac as well?

My best bet is to send it back to new one though
