I have a very specific question..

I just bought one of those giant "gaming" mousepads that goes all the way across my desk. (FYI not for gaming, I bought it for using my tablet on my table since it's easier on my wrists than glass). The only problem is it's now almost impossible to click down on my Magic Trackpad. The cushion of the mousepad doesn't work with the clicky feet of the trackpad. My question is, does anyone know if the Magic Trackpad 2 would work with a mouspad underneath? I know it uses a different kind of pressure to register clicks than the first generation, so maybe it would work? Otherwise I'll probably send this mousepad back and get a smaller one that doesn't cover the length of my table.

I just tried out my Magic Trackpad 2 with my mousepad and it works well. My mousepad is not very thick though so I can't tell you if a thicker mousepad would make a difference.

Ah.. Thank you for checking! Now to decide if it's worth it to upgrade my trackpad or just get a smaller mousepad. I'm leaning towards the new trackpad since I'm tired of the AA batteries.

This is the "giant mouse pad" that I have. It's 36" x 17", and my Magic Trackpad works perfectly on it.

The original Magic Trackpad doesn’t work on a mousepad because the clicks are generated by two small switches at the lower end of the trackpad- the feet. The Magic Trackpad 2 doesn’t physically click so it will work fine on a softer surface.

Just to test your comment, I connected an original Magic Trackpad to my iMac (photo above) and it worked perfectly, even on the large desktop pad that I referenced above. So, even though the OP stated that he had a Magic Trackpad 2, both the original and v2 of the Magic Trackpad will work on a "softer surface".

Apple isn't always perfect, but there's no need to spread misinformation.

Yeah, thats what I suspected.

Ah, well maybe it depends on the mousepad, because mine is fairly thick. And the clicking doesn't work on the original for me. I'm pretty happy with the giant mousepad otherwise though, so I think I've decided to try out the Magic Trackpad 2.
