Hi

Jut replaced an older MagSafe 2, the cord was crushed by a chair leg- wires where exposed, and with too much heat it eventually died on me one day, so i dropped by a Apple store to get me a new one......

Now this one is turning yellow on its own, looks like it will eventually catch fire, gets very very hot!, i had it for few months and when i took it to the Apple store where i got it i was told that i have to send it in to Paris and wait 3-5 days for a replacement! not exactly what you expect under EU consumer laws, normally the manufacture also retailer should replace it right there in the store under warranty.

Has anyone else experience with this type of issue?

Post makes no sense. If you just replaced it you have a warranty. The Apple Store would gladly replace it if it was heating up for no good reason.

Oily finger tips is the biggest cause of yellowing. Smoking too.

None of my genuine Magsafe chargers have turned yellow, let alone in just a few months. Are you sure it is a genuine Apple store???

they had no problems acknowledging it was defected and needed to be replaced, they just pulled the APPLE screw you stunt on me suggesting that if i needed to use my mb pro it was faster to buy a new magsafe2 or wait 5 days to use my mabcook pro again.

Eek - amazed that you didn't just get a replacement then.
well first off they are an apple store outside Paris France, i purchased this magsafe 2 from them, but i did not have the receipt with me as i forgot it on the kitchen table when took the original box and all with me, but when i called them they said it was ok because they have all the records on their computer.

after i got there this jerk tells me to wait 30 mins so they check it, then he says its not good, asked for the receipt, so i explained it to him but instead of looking in their computer to verify i got it in the store he claimed it did not matter as this will have to be replaced by contacting the apple store in Paris...i was like wtf! i asked again if i should return with the receipt to exchange it but he claimed it was not how its done suggesting that 30days past issues with anything purchased now have to be delt with Apple directly...this is an apple store or what? www.dxm.fr/ so i said just give me one from the shelf there and he said those are for sale. wtf?¿¿?¿∞¿¿

Well it's not an Apple Store. As gallerie Lafayette isn't one just cos they sold the Apple Watch ;)

But actually as a reseller he has to deal with the warranty.

This doesn't sound like any Apple Store I have been to. The policy is if the product is defective then they will replace it. But because the condition of your charger has yellowed so much it is doubtful to them that it is new and they will have to test it for you. You can purchase a new charger and refund it when the results come back. Just don't make it yellow.

they already confirmed it defected in the store, but the person helping me claims i have to wait 4-5 days for a replacement while they have 8 in stock

This has happened to me too! I'm on my third charge adapter, both replaced under AppleCare.

but your magsafe 2 was part of a purchase with your mbp.... i just spoke to the store and they said that i have to wait 3 days for them to replace the magsafe2 and bring the macbook into the store as well even though it was purchased separately , i think its absurd!

I just mean that this is common issue unfortunately.

Perhaps they want to check the MacBook to see if the charging circuitry is working as it should. Condition of the battery, too.

Did you buy the MagSafe at an actual "Apple Store"?
Or... somewhere else?

If it was NOT at an Apple Store, I'm wondering if somehow the place was selling MagSafes that aren't actually Apple's, but "knock-offs" ...?
