MagSafe Battery Pack Prototype Shows Earlier Design With Glossy Plastic and Rear LED

Would rather just use an external power brick and a cable. Wireless charging is too inefficient for it to make sense to use it to charge from a limited capacity battery.

It's for 'convenience'. When is something convenient not accompanied by trade offs.

I hope Apple releases a smart battery case too. The MagSafe battery is like having to carry two separate devices.

This makes me wonder if Apple could put a slim battery, similar to the one thats in the phone, in a slim line case, and stick a magnet on it. Think of it like a double or triple thickness credit card. I see all of these extra-charge batteries from Apple, and 3rd parties like an arms race; pack as much battery in an ugly shell that disturbs the ergonomics of the device, and slap a price on it. The case versions of these batteries aren't terrible, but for a company that prides itself on design, the current version for sale, and the prototype, of the magsafe battery pack isn't IT.

They filed a patent before the 12 Pro Max was released that detailed a product similar to the Silicone MagSafe case.

The MagSafe is amazing but Apple needs to do something about overheating the back of the iPhone. It degrades the battery % fast.

Perhaps on the next design MagSafe, Apple may want to Apply harder plastic so it doesn’t make the MagSafe hot.

The heat has to go somewhere - if it can't get to/through the shell, then the innards heat up.

Ugly as all get out but the function is great. Found an open-box return on eBay for $59 and rolled the dice.

Interesting to see the prototype. MagSafe battery back could have been a bit cheaper.

Drop the price to $50 and these would sell better. At near $100 USD, there are better options available from 3rd party that do the same utilitarian thing of charging your phone without a cable using MagSafe for much cheaper.

The capacity vs. price of these is ridiculous when Anker makes a far superior product that has a larger battery for less money. This one was a swing and a miss by Apple.
