I don't know what it is, but this battery pack excites me.

I travel a lot (including some very long journeys... sometimes days) and I've gotten good use out of my omnicharge power bank. But there's something about having to bring cables which I dislike.

I think if I knew I was going to be in the middle of nowhere for 48 hours, I'd bring two of these external batteries with me so I know I can easily get my mini to last those 48 hours. And they're so small and non-awkward (no cables) I can just slip them into a side pocket.

But I feel maybe this is a bit unreasonable, as carrying a cable is simple.

I guess I just like the fact it makes things slightly simpler?
Same same. Walking around Coachella with a cord hanging out of my pocket is cumbersome and not a great look. 😂

FWIW, there are some pretty good batteries out there with built in cables.
This looks nice though. When my current battery (with the cables built in) dies, I’ll be looking at it for the same reasons you lay out.

Or you could buy 2 Anker magnetic battery cases for the price of 1 of these, and I believe also has more battery capacity.
That reverse charging is a nice feature though. Not worth twice the price, but j have paid stupid money for Apple stuff before.

Another poorly designed Apple product that’s easy to lose.

The really need to focus on a more stylish battery CASE.

I remember having an Apple battery case for one of my older phones (the X I think) and I really liked the product. I had a Mophie case for my SE, which I really liked.

None of the aftermarket battery cases for the 12 have been any good. I bought one from Zerolemon, but it was too bulky. I tried another one from Newdery, and got 2 that wouldn't work with Car Play which was a total deal breaker for me. I sent them back.

The battery case market for the 12 has been a total disappointment. It's the only thing I really don't like about my 12 Pro.

Not having the ability to charge it without a wire is stupid when it does it via the phone

Is this going to work like the Apple Wallet...?

I view this as a backup option in case you run low on battery, not something you'd keep on the phone all the time. I'd rather have a slightly uncomfortable phone in a pinch than a dead phone.
I view this similarly too. At the same time, I wish battery technology were better. There are a few occasions in the year when I could use a battery pack, but the problem with that is a battery pack that sits unused continues to deteriorate. If battery technology were such that it doesn't deteriorate unless you use it, then no problem I can totally justify a purchase like this.

What a ridiculous looking thing. My high school shop students could not have done worse. Yes, it is not always fair to say that Steve would not have approved this, but in this case he certainly would have rejected it and also humiliated the designers in a meeting. It is a real shame what Apple has become.
I think you are probably right in that Steve would likely not have approved.

The plastic casing reminds one of a white iBook. That's really retro and not giving an updated design language to a new product.

This is a proof of concept for reverse charging on the iPhone. If it holds up well in the battery it will do well in the phone. They did not have to allow AirPods charging to sell the pack but since they do, I guess we will see it again not too long from now.

I think many of us see MagSafe on iPhone 12 as a completely new charging method, it's not: it's still using Qi standard, and just using magnets to proper align to the coils or affix accessories.

Yes and allows higher power.

I have an iPhone 12 pro and also a Google Pixel 5 and I love built in battery share my Pixel 5 has. Why would I interested at this piece of junk from Apple🤔 it will make my iPhone 12 pro look like it has a tumour !!

I understand how you feel! But it doesn't really take a whole lot to keep it from deteriorating, does it? Maybe just keep it plugged in somewhere and then maybe 1-2 times per month, unplug it and use it to charge your phone at home instead of your usual charging method. Then plug it back in until next month, etc. Or you could use this as your main charger all the time, and then just unplug it once or twice a month while it's charging your phone so it can drain.

I wish it was made out of the silicon case or even aluminum instead of the plastic. But this thing is super thick. Thicker than a snicker.
Ya I know it’s too thick. I’m rocking a slim 6000 pd charger and I can just fast charge for 20 mins then I don’t need to carry the battery back around. Wish it was thinner and I thought it would be given the smaller mah pack then say the anker magsafe charger. I bought the anker charger for prime day and it was too thick and annoying to carry for an hour.

Also, I‘m not interested because I don’t want to buy another lightning port from Apple. I’m ready for them to go USB C for all.
Sadly, I don't foresee much progress on USB-C, for one simple reason: every MFI-certified Lightning cable is $$$ for Apple.

Sure the "low-volume" products like iPad Pro and MacBook get USB-C, but switching a top product like iPhone to USB-C would mean giving up a huge amount of revenue from accessories.

Apple doesn't care that the fragmented USB-C vs Lighting product lines are inconvenient for you, because it is profitable.

I guess for some, that frequency of having to manage plugging and unplugging isn't a big deal. For me, it is. I really can't be bothered to have to remember to do such things as my time and brainpower needs to be allotted to other activities, including more rest.
