Hey everyone,

I bought myself a magsafe charger last week with the thought of using it in my home office and/or the office at work as I split my time between the two now.

However, in both circumstances, the magsafe charger doesn't seem to work - the only factor I can find for it is that in the home office I already have a laptop, homepod mini, screen plugged into the extension cable and using power from it, and similarly at work the power points are extension cables splitting one plug socket's power 4 ways. The charger works fine when I plug it directly into a wall socket, however there isn't one within reach in really any of my normal charging circumstances!

Has anyone else had this problem?

I also stupidly threw the box away for the magsafe charger so not even sure I would be able to return it now?

The most obvious suggestion is poor (or no) connection between the pins of the charger and the contacts within the extension cable.

When I have at various times opened up and properly looked inside some extension cable trailing sockets, the quality has often been extremely poor.

(My experience is based on the UK where the official standards are quite good, but all sorts of dross is available to buy.)

There is no reason why the MagSafe charger should not work while connected to an extension cord. If you had too many devices plugged into an extension cable (or power strip) such that it was drawing more current than rated for, then all of the devices would be affected in the same way. I routinely use power strips with surge protectors for all of these devices and do not have any issues.

And by the way, take care to not overload the rating of an extension cable. And don't use multiple extension cables, one connected to another, to lengthen the overall distance. This is a common cause of fire hazard (PSA).

Leaving a loaded extension cable wound round a drum, especially an enclosed type, is one of the worst things to do.

Some state clearly the maximum load when not unwound, and it will be much lower than the rating when fully unwound.

I don’t think it’s the pins because when I use the same apple plug but put in the USBC to lightning cable, it all works fine.

Maybe I will see if they will offer a replacement to see if it is just a faulty MagSafe

By MagSafe charger are you referring to the cable with USB-C connector at one end, and the MagSafe puck at the other end?

Or the USB-C charger that plugs into a 110 Volt outlet and had a USB-C connector so that any USB-C device can be attached?

The top one - the USB-C plug is the same one I use with the USB-C to lightning which works in the same scenario
